SITIIRDAY, APRIL 1563,
SANFORD'S NEGRO TROUPE played in
Lancaster on Wednesday evening.—
This company has always been' the fa
vorite of a Lancaster audience, but on
this last occasion "undid" themselves.
Like the Edwards & Shoroy troupe of
Columbia, they introduced, in their
sharp (?) sayings some thrusts at the
government. One of the city dailies
speaking of this part of the entertain
ment, says : "The only drawback to the
entertainment was the introduction of
Copperhead sentiments by the perform
ers, which were promptly rebuked by
the loyal portion of the audience. The
facts aro as follows : In the coarse of
the comic (?) colloquy, one of the per
formers referred to the President as be
ing troubled with "emancipation on the
brain"—intended as a bait to draw out
the. sentimentlof the audience. had
this been received in silence, as any loy
al gentleman would have seen it ought
to be,:the performers would have taken
the hint, and we should have bad no
more of it ; but certain Copperheads of
the city and county, sot the example of
applause, which of course was extensive
ly followed by many who didn't catch
the idea. This seeming approval of
course gave the performers the idea that
such things would be popular, and
shortly after it was tried again—the per
former holding up a dilapidated hand
kerchief, through which he could be
seen, and remarking that it was like
"Abe Lincoln's Emancipation Procla
mation," because "there was a nigger in
the back-ground." The Copperheads
entree lid again led off in applause, in
the usual uncivilized manner of stamp
ing with the feet, which would have
made any verbal protest inaudible ; so
the loyal majority of the audience fell
back on their only available expression
of disapprobation, and a sharp "hiss" re
sounded through the.liousKwhich was
unequivocal in its meaning. The per
formers, after such a hint, very wisely
attempted nothing further in that direc
tion." Whilst on this subject we may
be permitted to say that quife a serio
comic farce was enacted in this place
on Saturday evening.
.As we stated in
our last, the Burgess promised a com
mittee from the Union League that in
consequence of complaints of the dis
loyal character of the performance of
Edwards & Shorey's troupe at Colum
bus, he would withhold. a license from
them and thus avoid a riot—for it was
determined by some that they should
not give vent to their derision of the go
vern:nett, in this place ; but before
nightfall the Burgess discovered that
the opposition to the performance came
from a d—d know-nothing crew called
Union Leagers"—and that play they
should in spite of b—. Night came and
the performance proceeded—the coun
sels of the more prudent preventing a
riot ; but on Saturday evening a few of
those "Leagers" determined that it
ebould not be repeated—although no
thing offensive had transpired the even
ing previous, but the prestige of their
disloyal conduct at Columbia remained
fresh, and play they should not, was the
war-cry. At the opening hour, a few
of the More determined, went to the hall
door for entrance when Edwards de
manded their tickets—the captain of the
party said, "this crowd don't require
any tickets," and passed directly up into
the hall, followed by his followers, - and
on going up to the stage :the perform
ers being dressed in the tip of the mode
of gernmen ob color, appeared to com
prehend the movement, and suddenly
became "weak in the knees," and were
willing to do anything to convince the
citizens of Marietta that they were as
loyal as any of them ; one of them, wig,
black face, di'tmond breast pin, gold
chain and all was then..teken down to
Esquire Auxer's office to'take the oath
of allegiance the 'Squire, however,
doubted his right to administer such an
oath to a negro, and the performer was
admonished to "go and sin no more,"
I=l
Or By reference to our advertising
columns, it will be seen that the first
National Bank of Marietta will elect
directors this afternoon. Wo feel
downright glad—aye, almost in ecsta
cies—that this bank project is no longer
a myth—but a real, tangible, unmista
kable reality. Much of the success of
the project will now depend upon the
selectb3n of gentlemen for its manage
ment, and we have not the shadow of a
doubt that this, like its inception, will
be without the ground of complaint.—
Although it is not to be expected that
there will be no disappointments, for
that would be superhuman, but it is to
be hoped that all will be buried in tho
desire for harmony and the general
good.

Friends & Relatives of the Soldiers & Sailors.
ITOLLOWAY':3 PILLS AND OINT-
Ii I:IE:CT.—AII who have Friends and
Itelati-es in the Army or Navy, should take
special care, that they be amply supplied with
these Pills and Ointment; and where the
brave Soldiers and Sailors have neglected to
provide themselves with them, no better pres
ent can be cent them by their friends. They
have been proved to be the Soldier's never
failing-friend in the hour of need.
COUGHS AND COLDS AFFECTING TROOY9.
Will be speedily relieved and effectually
cured by using these admirable medicines, and
by paying proper attention to the Directions
which are attached to each Pot or Box.
Sick Headache and want of Appetite Incidental
to Soldiers
Those feelings which so 'Sadden us, usually
arise from trouble or annoyances, obstructed
prespiration, or eating and drinking whatever
is unwholesome, thus disturbing the healthful
action of the liver and stomach. These organs
must be relieved, if you desire to do well.—
The Pills, taking according to the printed
instructions, will quickly produce a healthy ac
tion in both liver and stomach, and as a natu
ral consequence a clear head and goed appeiite.
Weakness and debility induced by over Fatigue
Will scion disappear by the use of these in.
valuable Pills, and the Soldier will quickly
acquire additional strength. Never let' the
bowels be either confined or unduly acted
upon. It may seem strange that Holloway's
Pills should be recommended for Dysentery
and Flux, many persons supposing that they
would increase the relaxation. This is a
great mistake, for these. Pills will correct the
liver and stomach and thus remove all the
acrid humours from the system. This medi
cine will give tone and vigor to the whole
organic system however deranged, while
health and strength follow as a matter of
course. Nothing will stop the relaxation of
the Bowels so sure as this famous medicine.
VOLUNTEERS ATTENTION
Sores and Ulcers, Blotches and Swellings
can with certainty be radically cured if the
Pills are taken night and morning, and the
Ointment be freely used as stated in the printed
nstructions. If treated in any other manner
they dry up in one part to break out in another.
Wheress this Ointmeat will remove the
former from the system and leave the Patients
in vigorous and healthy man. It will require
as little perseverance in bad cases to insure a
lastng cure.,
For Wounds either occasioned by the Bayonet
Sabre or the Bullet, Sores or Bruises,
To which every Soldier and Sailor are liable
there are no medicines so safe, sure and con
venient as Holloway's Pills and Ointment
The poor wounded and almost dying sufferer
might have his wounds dressed immediately,
if he would only provide himself with this
matchless Ointment, which should be thruss
into the wound and smeared all around it, then
cover with a piece of linen from his Knapsack
and compressed with a handkerchief. Taking
night and morning 6 or S Pills, to cool the
system and prevent inflamannn.
Every Soldier's Knapsack and Seaman's
Chest should be provided with these valuable
Remedies.
breotrrair CAUTION !—None are genuine
unless the words "HOLLOWAY, NEW YORK
and LONDON," are discernible as a Wate, -
mark in every leaf of the book of directions,
around each pot or box; the same may be
plainly seen by holding the leaf to the light.—
A handsome reward will be given to any one
rendering such information as may lead to the
detection of any party or parties counterfeiting
the medicines or vending the same, knowing
them to be spurious.

A word of solemn conscientious advice to
those who will reflect.
A class of maladies prevail to a fearful ex
tent in the community, dooming at least 100,-
000 youth of both sexes annually, to an early
grave. Those diseases are very imperfectly
understood. Their external manifestation, or
symptoms are Nervous• Debility Relaxation
and Rxhaustion ; Marasmus or wasting and
consumption of the tissues of the whole body ;
shortness of breathing or hurried breathing on
ascending FL hill or flight of stairs ; great pal
pitation of the Heart; Asthma, Bronchitis and
sore Throat ; shaking of the Hands and Limbs ;
aversion to society and to business or study ;
dimness of eyesight, loss of Memory, dizziness
of the Head, Neuralgia, Pain in various parts
of the body; Pains in the back or limbs, Ltun
bago, Dyspepsia or Indigestion, irregularity o
the bowels, deranged secretions of the Kid
neys and other glands of the body, as Leuchor
rhwr of Fleur Albus, &c. Likewise Epilepsy,
Hysteria and Nervous Spasms.
Now in ninety-nine cases out of every one
hundred, all the above named disorders, and a
host of others not named, as Consumption of
the Lungs and that most insidious and wily
form of Consumption 'of the Spinal Nerves,
known as Tabes Dorsales, and Tabes mesen
teries, have their seat and origin in diseases
of the Pelvic Viscera. Hence the want of
success on the part of old school practice in
treating ,symptoms only.
Dr. Andrew Stone, Physician to the Troy
Lung and Hygienic Institution, is now en
gaged in treating this class of modern mala
dies with the most astonishing success. The
treatment adopted by the institution is, new ;
it is based upon scientific principles, with new
discovered remedies, without minerals or poi
sons. The facilities of cure are such that pa
tients can be cured at their homes, in any per
of the country, from accurate descriptions of
their case, by letter ; and have the niedieinet
sent by mail or express. Printed interrogatoS
ries will be forwarded on application,
liCr Consumption, Catarrh and diseases of
the throat cured as well at the Home of the
Patients as r t the Institution ' by sending the
Cold Medicated Inhaling Balsamic Vapors,
with inhaler and ample directions for their
use, and direct correspondence.
DZ. Patients applying for interrogatives or
advice, must enclose return stamps, to meet
attention.
