Tux PATitio•ric Ciaci.F.: At a meet
ing of 'The Circle,' held on the evening
of the 19th ultimo, the following officers
were elected to serve the ensuing pear:
President, Mrs. George M. Clawges,
Vice President, Mrs. James Cushman,
Treasurer, Mrs. F. L. Baker,
Secretor 11, Miss Emma Rudisill.
E cm:Wive Committee, Mrs. S. Doyle,
Chairman, Mmd's Spangler, Rowe, Eris.
man, Appold, McMichael, Misses Haines
and Ilopkins.
This society organized December 12th
1861, and has, during the past year, pur
chased 831 yards of cloth, which I as been
made up into clothing for the sick and
wounded soldiers. Nino boxes of these
articles have been sent to the various
hospitals; four to Georgetown, two to
Harrisburg, two to St. Louis and one to
York, Pa,
The expenditures of the society for
material and freight during the year, have
amounted to $304:66, all of which has
been paid out of the treasury of the
society,
It now remains with the public to de
cide whether "Ile Circle' shall continue
in this good work. For the liberal en
couragement already received, the ladies
arc thankful, and are willing—aye, an
xious—to go on, but the funds are nearly
and they cannot proceed in
their labors without means. They trust
this appeal will not be in vain at a time,
when the sufferings of our fellow beings
call so loudly for sympathy and aid.
E. RUDISII.I., Secreary
40' Rev. Mr. Ulawges informs us that

All persons, male or female, who feel an
interest in the cause of Temperance and

good can be done.
orZ . On New-Year's day we received a
letter i'roni our former townsman, Mr -

more years, has been a resident of Cali

says ; "Continue to send The Mariettian

receive it, for it is the only means 1
have of knowing what is going on in my
old home ; all my friends having cut me

:Mg me, no doubt, out of the world, but
Ise assured I feel a vast deal of interest
in the old town, for when my neighbors
call into my camp I lay down '['he Ma
rieltian before them and point with
pride to what she is doing for the go
vernment in sending soldiers to tight
and money to help to support them."
Ci t r On Uhri.strnas night the office of
Mr. John Patterson, coal dealer, of
Mount Joy, this county, was broken into
and robbed. The safo was torn open
with crow-bars, mauls and wedges. The
Fcoundrels ransacked every drawer.—
