On the 30th of October an acci
dent occured in East Donegal township,
lit the house of Mr. J. A. Garber, which
is a warning to continual watchfulness
over young children. About eleven
o'clock iv the morning a little girl be
longing to Henry Torne, was amusing her
self by playing with some live coals in
an ash-heap, where they finally kindled
some combustible matter into a blaze,
communicating to her clothing, and im
mediately enveloping her in flames.—
She was at once wrapped in a carpet,
and the fire smothered—bat too late to
save her life, for she died in seventeen
hours afterward.

A GOOD DEED :-A worthy, indus

wife, (not out of bed for three months,)
and five helpless children, the oldest
only, nine years of age,was among the mil

Three days he made fruitless efforts to
obtain a substitute, his all—a cow, two
pigs and a lot of chickens. But sub
stitutes rated higher. A good neigh
bor becoming acquainted with these
facts, made known the case, and four
friends procured him a substitute for
the sum of three hundred dollars. This
is a deed worthy of record,

He lately graduated at the Jefferson
