company left upper station on Wednes
day noon for Harrisburg. At an early
hour the town was armed by the sharp
e-at-a-Cat of the dram and by car time
a vast crowd had collected at the de;
pot to witness the 'embarkation of the
ompany. They numbered fifty-five rank

first lieutentant, Harrison Both; sec
ond lieutenant, William Kendig. This
company left in better condition than any
that had proceeded it from this place ;
the boys were all In excellent spirits,
having been amply provided with every
comfort that a soldier could "lug along"
—gum blankets, wollen shirts, overcoats,
shawls, tin clips, knives, forks and spoons
and large haversacks, (which, by the way,-
were made and presented by the Patri
otic Circle) filled with "provender" for
the inner man, and last, but not least,
Capt. Eagle saw that his men should be
fortified against any attack similar to
the one made by the plug-uglier of Haiti
more on the Mapsschusetts boyS, by
having his men armed with rises and ten
rounds of cartridge--thus they went forth.

composed of the very best material of
this section, a majority of them having
left business at home, and some very
lucrative situations for the trifling pay
of a private in the militia. Moreover,
they have not gone to 'defend the . State
only, but, as some of them said on en

of sutler•pedlars and had their entire
stock confiscated by the rebels. They
say, however, that they are aot badly
treated.

General Kearney ordered his officers to
wear sewed on their caps a square bit of
red flannel, that be might the rno,re easi
ly recognize them. They have deter
mined to adopt this: red badge as an
honorary distinction, and their new com
mander, General Stoneman, approves of
it. Field and staff officers wear it on
the crown of their caps; line officers on
the front of their caps ; and privates on
the right side. In the next tight, in
which they may be engaged, Kearney's
men, with their badges, Will avenge their
beloved commander.

of "Camanche" to the immense iron
clad vessel now building in Jersey City,
and intended to be the pioneer of a fleet
for the protection of our Pacific coast.
Crowds of workmen are employed upon
the vessel. She is building in the yard as
the Weehawken, only the latter being
on the stocks nearest the water, must be
launched first. The peculiar mode of
building a mailed man-of-war, which,
when finished in every, way, can be ta
ken apart piecemeal and - transported
like a portable mess chest, is very inter
esting.
rre George N. Sanders, who left for
Europe, via Niagara, some weeks since,
we see by our English papers, per, Edin
burg, has arrived in Liverpool. The
Telegraph, of that city, a semi-secesh or
gan, announces with a flourish, that he
is "bearer of despatches for the Confed•
erate Commissioners, Messrs Mason and
Slidell." •
aft The men employed in the work
shops of the Pennsylvania railroad at
Harrisburg have formed into a military
company. The company permits them
certain hours to drill each week, without
deducting from their wages the time so
employed.
Cr On Thursday evening seventy-two
thousand troops had arrived at Harris
burg in response to the Governor's call,
and more hourly arriving.
Wednesday the 17th day of Sep
tember was the 74th anniversary of the
adoption of the Constitution.

TRYING TO ESCAPE THE DRAFT.—A
person dressed in female apparel, and
who left Rochester, New York, for Ni
agara Falls,was observed to act in an
uneasy manner, and, on examination, it
was discovered that the person was a
man in woman's clothes, and was making
for Canada to escape the draft. He was
put under arrest at Lockport. His
name is Tallman, from Tallreansvillo ,
Pa., and he was formerly a postmaster
under Buchanan.
