M r. Ruitzel was for several years engaged
in the express business, with Adams. &
On., and is throaghly acquainted with
railroading in all its varied details. A
better selection, we think, could not have
been made. He leaves a host of friends

success in his new sphere of operations.

Or The office of Messrs. Miller &
'Musser's Lumber Yard and Saw Mill,
nt the upper end of this borough, was
broken into on Friday night last and
ihe lock blown off of the iron safe door
and, the sate robbed of about fifty-eight
hundred dollars in bank notes, cheeks,
notes of hand, &v., The safe was drilled
near the lock and powder inserted and
the lock blown from the door. It was
one of 11 erring's celebrated powder and
thief proof safes. Paymiints have been
etopped on the various checks and notes.
The firm offer a reward of $3OO. See

has received a long letter from A. B.
Mnlony, formerly of this ttorough, but
new attached' to the U. S. Ship "James-
I own," of the North Atlantic Blockading
Squadron, in which ho very stoutly denies
the charge sometime since nude in this
paper of having "sesesh" proclivities.--
We at e glad to find that A. B M. has
"seen the error of his way and repented
thereof." The letter will appear iu our
next.

Capt. W. E. Krater, of the St. John
(louse, of this place, that Capt. Adam
:Nam who is a brother.in law of Mr.
K. is not dead, but was wounded and
taken prisoner at the battle of Pittsburg
Landing: that Andrew H. Hershey—a
"nephew of Mrs. W. E. K.,—was shot
through the ear, and at last account was
eu his way home—Savanna, Illinois.—
Capt K. bad in the battle of Pittsburg
Landing, two brothers in.law, one broth
er and one nephew—good for one fund;
ly—and all natives of Marietta.

the Confederates captured at Island No.
10, and taken to Columbus, Ohio. lle
was connected with an academy in Ala
bana, and when captured was a lieuten
ant of a company in a regiment from

ering. We were gratified a few evenings
since by a glance at quite a lot of con
traband goods, captured by part of the
blockade squadron to which the Doctor
was attached. The Doctor has also

ken open on Friday night, April 25th, their fire
proof safe was blown open, and about $BOO in
bank notes, besides two $2O gold pieces, and a
number of checks and promissory notes stolen.
Among the bank notes were three 50's on the
Columbia Bank, two 50's of the Lancaster
Counfy Bank ;the remainder of the money was
chiefly of the bank's above named, and of
the Farmer's Bank of Lancaster, and the
Mount Joy Bank. A reward of $l5O will be
given for the recovery of the money stolen,
and an additional $l5O for the arrest and con
viction of the thief or thieves on conviction.
