Cr On Tuesday morning, Miss Grace
flubley, sister of Mrs. William Jenkins
residing in North Duke street, Lancas
ter, was fatally burned by her clothes
taking fire, whilst standing before an
open grate, and before assistance could
be had, she was enveloped in flames.—
Newton Lightner, Esq., who happened
to be passing at the time, heard i the
alarm, and rushing in, threw his overcoat
over Mies H. and succeeded in saving
her from instant death. The flames
were finally subdued by the application
of water from a small hose at hand.—
Drs. Atlee, Muhlenbtirg and Ehler were
immediately in attendance, but could be
of no avail—she died about 5 o'clock in
the evening.

of the Philadelphia Press says that Mr.
Buchanan does not co coal the fact that
he is preparing to launch a thunderbolt
upon the country, either before or after
his death, in the shape of a history of
his own time, and a vindication of his
Administration. In this great.work ho
is assisted by ex-Attorney Gen. Black,
who spends most of his time in Wash
ington, and hie late private Secretary,
Adam J. Glossbrenner. Both of these
personages have paid a visit to Wheat
land ; but Mr. Glossbrenner is the most
active collectOr and compiler of the ma
terials for the forthcoming brochure.

foreman of the Grand Jury. Amongst
the causes from Marietta, Capt. Cong
don's case, was on account of the ab
sence of an important • witness (?) post
poned. The german, John Zone, for
stealing Mr. David Eyer's wash, plead
guilty, and was sentenced to 6 months
in the County Jail. John Laugdon was
acquitted and county for costs. The
Hauer lager beer case, the bill was ig
nored by the grand jury, and Joseph
Young, (who, of course, will pay?) for
costs.

the venerable Capt. John H. Duchman,
formerly of the Lancaster Fancibles,
and now Major of Col. Hambright's
regiment, had - a splendid sword present
ed to him, by his comrades of the Lan
caster Union Fire Company. The Lieu
tenant is attached to Capt. Pieffer's
.company, and has left for the seat of
war.

The Columbus Suri remarks: On Saturday,
