Da. lionsos, P. E., will preach in the Methodist Church, on Sunday (to morrow) morniugat 10 o'clock CW' The Teachers of the Borough met on Saturday afternoon in the high School building, for the purpose of or ganizing a Teachers' Association which has for its object, the mutual improve ment of its members in the different branches taught iu the public schools.— After electing 1. S. Geist, President and Miss Emma Baker Secretary the following persons were appointed Teach ers, at the next meeting. Reading, Miss Emma Baker, - Written Arithmetic, Miss M. Turner, Mental Arithmetic, Miss J. Turner, Geography, Miss Annie Caldwell, Grammar, Theo. Heistand, Algebra, I. S. Geist. The Association :fleets every Saturday afternoon. We hope the Association will be well attended, not alone by those who are Teachers, 'hut those who feel an interest in the schools, and those who intend to become teachers would profit by connecting themselves with the As sociation. re We spent a few days during last week, in the Quaker City, and made our home, for the time, at "The American Hotel," Chestnut street, which is, un questionably, one of the finest hotels in that city. its location is decidedly very desirable for the pleasure seeker or the business man; being in the very centre of the fashionable, promenades and only within a few blocks of all the leading wholesale houses. In addition to this, its management is . complete. Affable and obliging book keepers, attentive servants, well ventilated and good sized chambers; to say nothing of the excellent larder, which cannot be excelled by any hotel in the " City of Brotherly love." 'W cannot see why "The American" is not more of a Lancaster county head quarters. Its fare is now reduced to one dollar and a half a day. We would say to our friends, try " The American." la' As Col. Hambright's Lancaster County Regiment was embarking at Pittsburg, on Friday afternoon of last week, an accident occurred in conse quence of an unmanagable artillery horse, which they were putting on board the steamboat, jumping overboard and was killed ; the excitement bringing all on board, to the fore end of the boat, and crushing in of the hurricane deck. The scene is described as having struck terror to all within sight. Col, rlambright and Lieut Col. J. H. Duchman were on the boiler deck, the the former, miraculously it would Seem, escaped entirely, but the latter received an injury to his neck, from 'which be suffered considerable inconvenience,— The Adjutant Charles R. Fredley, was also ou the boiler deck, and was most seriously injured. At live o'clock he was in an insensible state, from concus sion of the brain. He was observed standing upright, under the broken deck, immediately after the accident, but was soon overcome from the effect of the heavy weight suddenly coming upon his bead. The band of the regiment were col lected immediately in front on the hur ricane deck, and when the crash came were the first to fall forward. Daniel Clemens, and several others were severe ly, but not dangerously injured. Mr. Frailey was taken to the residence of G. Washington Smith, formerly a Lan 'basterian, of the firm of Hostetter & Smith, and at last accounts was expect to join the Regiment in a few days. The 45th Regiment. P. V. under Col. Tnomas WELSII, left Camp Curtin on Monday last. Previous to their de , arture Gov. Curtin presented a stand of colors. Col. Welsh, in reply to the I s resentation speech of the Governor, =aid "the flag should never be disgraced ,:o long as a strong arm in his regiment • •as left to uphold it." The Colonel is Columbian, and Lancaster County ay well be proud of him. Our old iend and townsman, Captain JOHN aic- LLRF, is attached to this regiment as nartermaster, and will, beyond doubt, ako an obliging officer, The continued rains keep the usqueliatina very high; for the past ,eek quite a number of board and tim- , er rafts arrived and passed on eastward, giving employment to a number of our hardy watermen. These Fall freshets 9,Te quite a God-send in many respects. eir Our townsman, Harry Wolfe, has gone into theWheatOoffee manufacture; tills beverage has become very popular in our neighborhood and Harry will make it right. He sells it at Ten cents a pound. r The annual election for officers of the "Marrietta and Lancaster;" the " Marietta and Mount Joy," and the "Marietta and Maytown" turnpike road companies takes place on Monday next. It was organized as follows, on the 23d of April : Capt. Sam'l. D. Miller, President; Rev. A. B. In the first ward there were a number of subscriptions made, on which there were no payments made, which is The cause of the amount unpaid being almost fourtimes as large as that of either of the other Wards*. The re funding account in the expenditures is a distribution of Twenty-five per cent. to ,all subscribers of five dollars or up wards, who have paid in full, for the pur pose of bringing them nearer to an equality with those who have paid only a part. The balance on hand is to be retained during the war to meet any claims of needy volunteers or their fam ilies, who may be deemed entitled by the Town Council. Having investigated the accounts, and found them not only correct but also kept in a most satisfactory and business like manner, we would here express our thanks to the Relief Committee for the noble devotion they have manifested for our Country's cause, by attending with the greatest promptness and regularity to the wants of our Soldiers families.
