position sustained by Dr. Trail, whether
its a physician, a professor, or an author,
we sonfidently bespeak for him a crowd

Mr. Editor.: For some time past it
las been rumored that Mr. A. B. Grosh
would probably be a candidate for the
Legislature at the ensuing election, but
so far as I know, nothing positive'on this
!matter has yet been announced publicly.
II confess that though favorably inclined
'towards Mr. Grosh, chiefly on account
of tile public spirited manner in whith
'be interested himself in behalf of our
-volunteers and their families, yet until
the delivery °fit is admirable speech at the
collation given to the 'Cameron Guards,'
On their return borne, I did not know
Mr. G. sufficiently to be very specially
interested in his behalf. Now, however,
it is far otherwise. lam most anxiotis
that he should be induced to become a
candidate for the Legislature at the next
election, as I am satisfied that there is
co man within our reach better qualified
for the office. What say you?

GP' We are glad to learn that Gov.
Curtin has appoititedliteut. Col. Welsh,
of Columbia, (late of the Second Regi
ment, P. V.,) Coloriel of one of the new
regiments which this State has been call
ed upon to furnish. ' This is an excellent
appointment and will give general satis
faction, as a deserved tribute to a worthy
man and a brave soldier. Col. Welsh
served one year as a- private and non
commissioned officer in the Secon&Reg
iment Kentucky Volunteers during the
Mexican war; was wounded at Buena
Vista, and for gallantry and good con
diet 'subsequently promoted to a second
lieutenaoy of the Eleventh Infantry, in
which capacity he served until the ex
piration of the war. On the first null for
'volunteers by. President Lincoln he
went to Harrisburg as captain of the
gbawnee Guards, Columbia, the first
company that left this county. He was
soon afterwards elected lieutenant col
onel of the Second Pennsylvania Regi
ment, and was with General Patterson's
Division until the regiment was muster
ed out at the expiration of their three

This Company is authorized By its charter

loss or• damage by lire, on the mutual plan, for
any length of time, limited orperpetual, either
for a cash premium, or a prennummote.
PREWUM NOTE. SYSTEM.
Those who insure for a premium note will
be insured for five years, and subject to assess
ments in case of losses.
CASH 'SYSTEM.
Those who insure for a cash premium will
be insured for any term not exceeding 5 years,
and not subject to any assessments. One pee
centum premium will be charged on farm pro
perty-tor the term of five years.
DEPOSIT SYSTEM.
Farm property will be insured for the term
of ten years, for a deposit of three per cent. of
the amount insured, the whole amount of the
premium note to be returned at the expiration
of the policy, without interest, or the policy
will be renewed for ten years, without any ex
pense, at the option of the insurer.
