TRALL'S VISIt—We have learn ed on going to Press, and can but barely announce the fact, that Dr. Trail intends to be here the week after next, and has promised to deliver several lectures Com-. mencing on the evening of Monday th e 26th Augt, instant, OUR VOLUNTEERS.- The Marietta Vol unteers returned borne on Saturday last, They were met at the Railway Station ty the Fire Companies and a number of our citizens who escorted them through the principal streets of the borough to the front of the Donegal [louse where they were drawn np in line and address.. ed by the Rev. A. B. Grosh, who on be half of the citizens bade them welcome to their home again, and invited them to dine with their friends on Thursday at Clark's woods where they would be hap. py, to meet them. Accordingly on the clay appointed our citizens mustered in the grove upwards of a thousand strong (some say fifteen hundred) where they spent the afternoon right pleasantly. The good things of the table were fur nished by Mr. flouseal, mine host of the Rail Road Hotel, whose catering on the occasion gave great satisfaction. After dinner a very excellent address was de livered by Mr. Grosh. The musical per formances on the occasion were well ex ecuted, and contributed much to the en joyment of the happy compapy. iggr In consequence of.illness in our family we were compelled to forego the pleasure of being a looker-on at the pa geat given to the Cameron Guards at Clerk's woods on 'Fhrusday last. We are therefore compelled to give only a meagre account of it. In our next we will give the very able address delivered by Rev, Aaron B. Grosh on the occasion. cir The York Worth Infantry spent a day in camp on the opposite side of the river and on Saturday came over to Marietta and took a dinner at Hour. eel's Railroad Hotel. The Infantry had just returned from their three months enlistment. gi t y- We see it stated that owing to some dissatisfaction with the manner in which the principal contractors were conducting the work on the Columbia and Reading Rail Road, the Board of Directors a few days since held a meeftng in Ephrata, and by a vote of six to five annulled the contract. We belive the work is to be continued; but how, and by whom, we are unable, to say. =I We At noon on Monday last, about seventyfive young men left this place for Hagerstown, their to join the army for three years, as teamsters. Most of these young men have for years been employed at our furnaces but in conse quence of that businesi suspending op erations, they were out of employment. . • . . . ibrb nuniber of persons of the Dun ker presuasion were immersed on last Sabbath a week in Missimer's dam, near Mount Joy. A young man named Grosh drove into the dam with his horse and buggy, to get a better view. He got out of his depth, the buggy upset, and himself and two ladies he had with him narrowly escaped drowning. . . Marietta, August 15, 1861 Mr. Editor: May
