"ROCKED."-A Republican meeting was held at Funkstown on 3londay, evening last, which was aVy addressed by Judge Chas Lee Armour and Col. rico. B. Wiestling The meeting was large and spirileci and passed off without any disturbance. The procession of Boys in Blue from Quincy and this place on their return were, however, as• satiated by a patty with stones who had con cealed themselves in a corn patch. Several persons were struck but none seriously in. jured Persons who make such cowardly assaults under the cover of darkness aro fit subjects for the hangman's rope. We noticed in your last week's issue, a communication t rolative to tbo "new road law," which is to be decided at the October election, on the 13th inst. We thick the statements made, and opinions as expressed, decidedly biased, and such as will not meet the approbation of our people. The general opinion appears to be that the condition, of our roads • has been greatly improved by the new system, and feel determined that every effort shall be made to make the law permanent. We sincerely hope that every far mer will look to his interest' and come out promptly to the polls on Tuesday next and lam) the law which to us bus been so ben eficial. Departed this life on the morning of Sop. tember 20, 1868, at 1 o'clock, from the , effects of a w-rund produced by a. bullet. l JOHN D. LECRONE son of Mr Samuel Lecrono of this vicinity, aged 17 years, 1 month and 21. days. Young Lecroue was a quiet, inoffensive young man, of a religions turn of tufted. Some time last winter, he attended a series of n-eetings at Jacobs' Church, conducted by myself, when we en deavored to instruct him in the way of Sal vation through Christ, and as he night after night presented a hirnself as an anxious in quirer, receiving iustructions and the benefit, of the prayers of the church, he was etiablea at last, to receive Christ as a gracious Sa viour. While he remained in that vicinity he was regular io his attendaube on the means of Grace and in his connexion with the Sabbath School. In view of all the facts of the ease, we have great hope in his death, and have consigned his body to the grave in hope of a blisful immortality. The deceased was burriid in . the fiimily hurrying grounci at, the Salem Chords. His funeral was preached from the words` of St. Paul in his Epistle to the Corinthiaos, 4 chapter and 17th with past of the 18th . verse. "For our light affliction,- which is but for a moment, workout for us a far more exceeding and eternal, weight of glory; while we look not at the things which ate seen, but at the things which are not seen." The subject of these butiful words of inspiration was de Mooed to give comfort to the clinch afflicted family and.frionda, and we trust that they were enabled to join to the sentiments ,of the Hymn sung at the cloth of the services of that wimp boar.
