A large majori ty of these foreigners passed through amis. burg, via the' Pennsylvania railroad, en route for the West, whither they go to seek homes. TATE ON VENTION.— 'e onven to form a new Constitution for Maryland as sembled at Annapolis on Wednesday in ac cordance with the result of the election field on the first Wedeebday of last month. Am- pie provision will nki . doubt be made for — Southern-rebel - outlaws-who-are said to be of late flooding Baltimore and other portions of the State. Tun ASSASSINATION PLOT.—The Wash• _ingtoa_Chronide oft e 4 r.h inst—ta_ys_tha General Butler, who since the adjournment of Congress has been energetically engaged in the search for facts connected with the assassination; ban obtained evidence showing that therevas a-distinct understanding_among the conspirators that inn • event was the Vice. President to be assassinated, and that the - - movements-of Atterott—about the—Kirkwood House, and the various etrunnstances going to •sholv that thire waa a design to iikelike Mr. Johnsen as one of the victims of the -- prof;w hure — in tend ed - merelyssw - blind:---- The Chronicle might have justlyy, added that public suspicion was never more stead ily directed against any man than it has, been, is and will be against ..Nndrew Johnseq, as a coadjutor in the murder of Abraham Lincoln. The disgraceful intoxication of Johnson on his inauguration—his open sympathy for tree• son the moment he got wherelho could serve traitors—and the damnable persecution with which ho has panned loyal men, all prove 'Eassination of Abraham Lincoln. If this is not completely establislied before Johnson dies, it will be recorded against hien,as a liv ing fact after be is in the grave. TRIAL OF DAVIA —We leach from the Baltimore Americas that there has been considerable excitement at Richmond, Nor folk and Portsmouth on account of the expec ted visit of Jeff. Davis to the former city , in a few days, to appear before the United States Court, as there seems to be no doubt that 'President Johnson has ordered General Bur• ton to deliver the prisoner to the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia. Unless Davis' counsel and friends have some assurance that the Governmeat is ready to proceed with the trial of the great traitor, it is said they have made a great blun der in obtaining the writ of habeas corpus, as Judge Underwood will not release him on hail,"but send him to the Virginia Peniten tiary. A Richmond despatch of last night announces the meeting of the United States Court yesterday, and gives an ahstract of Judge Underwood's charge. to the Grand Ju ry, among the members of which are Ron- John Minor Botts, Ron. Joseph Seger, ex- Mayor McKenzie, of Alexandria,' and five colored men. The Judge said that. the Court had, been threatened with. assassination, but, thanks to the legislation of 'Congress, it met now in security'. Ile denounced the press of Richmond as disloyal, and said it had, en couraged perjury and countetfeiting to cheat the government of the 'Golfed States. The Examiner claims to • have information that the session of the Court will be prolonged until the adjournment of the Supreme Court, when Chief ,Justice Chase, will preside, at Davis' trial. The latter is expected in Rich, cuond on Saturday. There are thousands of acres of fertite soil Within a hundred miles of San Francis. co, waiting for men 'to accept them as gifts. The abundance of unoccupied public lands tends to keep down the price of private lands, and the best farming land in the State is .not north more than $lOO per acre.
