TERRIBLE EXPLOSIONS.—Thero have be . en
a number of terrific explosions in the Oaks
Colliery at Barnsley, England, and they con
tinue almost every day, which show that the
_fire is stiltraging in the;pit. , The lost of life
,has been awful amongst the workmen, .and
touching scenes of woe and despair are hour•
ly witnessed in the vieinity. Over eighty'
funerals of bodies that have_been recovered
have taken place. One hundred and siaty
woman have bean left widows, and three
hundred and eighty children have been
made orphans by this terrible calamity, and
many of these are mourning on the streets
from morning until night. It is thought
that at least five hundred men kit their
lives.

POST OFFICE ROBBED—The Post Office
in this place was entered by burglars on
Tuesday night last and robbed of about $125
in money and stamps.' The thief or thieves
entered* the front door by unlocking it, and
after unlocking three drawers in the office
and tilling them of their contents locked two
of them. The front door .was also found
locked in the morning as usual. No clue of
the party to the theft has so far been had,
but we trust some devolopements may yet be
mado which will lead to their 'detection.

Slavery not Yet Dead.
BALTIMORE. Dee. 24.—Four negroes now.
rioted of larceny and ordered to be sold by
JUdge Magruder, at- Annapoli3, were sold on
Saturday. Some twenty- or thirty persons
were present at the.sale The-first one sold
was John Johnson, who bid for himself; and
the auctioneer taking'the bid ; he was finally
knoilted down , to himself, Wan& , he became
his own purchaser for $37.
Another man brought 835, and two girls
brought respectively $22 and 830 each.
There was an officer of the Freedmen's
Bureau present at the sale; and it was thought
the bidding would have been• more spirited
but for the-fact that an impression seemed
to prevail that.the officer in question was a•
bout to interfere with the right of the pur
chasers, and relieve the Degrees from the
custody of these.who bought.

Henry Boehm, 92 years old, member of the
Church for 64 years; Daniel Ayres. 77 years
old, a Imem'3er of the church for 61 years;
and O. T.AVandell. 97 years old, and a mem
ber of the church for 77 years. All of them
retain surprising activity of body and mind.
