izens of York reached Baltimore a few days
ago; in search of his wife, who he said had
deserted him, and taken with her a valuable
gold watch and MO' in motley, which he
had entrusted to her care while he was in
the service of his country. She was but
nineteen years of age, and during the absence
of her husband a man succeeded in inducing
her to elope with him. This was her first
step irethe road to ruin, and when last heard
of, she was in a •houSe of intamy in Balti
more. The husband's search was in vain,
and he has returned to York, to his once
happy but now desolate hoine. .
Recently, a woman, apparently some twen
ty-two or twenty-three years of age, accom
panied' by a little girl, aged about two years,
—nalled-at-the--house. - -of Mr. 6 True, in- Ebens
- burg, Cambria county, and asked the family

ehe returned from the store: They promis
ed to comply , with her request, when she de
parted—but...she hod not yet returned. 'The
child has been taken in charge by the 'poor
bouse officers.

tinue. The Richmond Times of the' 14th
has a long editorial inviting emigration to

President Johnson has duly'commissioned
'Judge William Marvin to be Provisional
Governor of Florida. The proclamation and
instructions are precisely like those in the
case of Georgia and other revolted States.
A despatch from' Nev York,.relative• to
the burning of Barnum's Museum, says the
snakes escaped—some of them, into Broad
way, and sfme into the World and News (Ali.
co. The inference is that the latter were
of the copperhead species.
A clergynian named Lindbaek is bein e' tried
in Sweden, charged with the murder of sev
eral of his parishioners by administering to
them poison in there sacramental wine !

Miorse-stealer, on his way to the lowa
State Prison, while on a steam boat threw his
manacled hands our the neck of the man who
was guarding him, and making a desperate
leap forward threw himself and the man into
