decided' what to-do
Since my marriage my old employments and
urseits had been altogether neglected ; but I
how resumed them, fttnd as much as possible re
turned to my bachelor life. •
My wife ovary day sent letters full of tears,
but I Pnid 136 attention to them outwardly, al
though • they touched my heart sorely. At
length I wrote her n long and serious letter, in
which I said that es,we had been married with-
out 'any previous courtship, it was not strange'
that,' being unaegitainted with each other a
chaTleter; we couldinot harmonize togethor, and
;proposed that MA , should remain at her father's
house at {present, and that, with her permission

and spend an eve 'newith her in conversation,
until we Were iiqua e with each other, and
after that, if she sbou like me well enough I
would take her home to my wife—but if she

under her, lather's roof, and giya up all claims.

This plan - did not please her much,„but she
appeared to think*, would not be becoming in
her to bring up an objection.
Well—to cut a long story short—after a for

more took her hoine, and she made me one of

: LIZING AUGER HOLES RITIi A GIMLET.-
"Mi boy, what are yon doing with that gim
let ?' said I to a flaxen-haired urchin, who was
laboring away with all his might at a piece of
board before him.
"Trying to make an anger hole," was the re
ply, without ridging his eyes. •
Precisely the, business of at least two-thirds,
of the world4-this making anger holes with a
gimlet.
Here is young A. wRo has just ied.from
the clerks desk behind the counter. He spOrts
.his monstachois, his imperials, carries a rattan:\
drinks his champagne, talks big, about the,
profits, of banking or shaving notes. He thinks'
he is really a man—but everybody around him
mats he isonly making auger holes with a gim
/d.
Mt. B. may be put down as a - distinguished
profissor of the gimlet. lie was a farmer.—
His father left him a fine farm, free from in
eumbranes—but he would'nt be content—spee
uLstien in corn and flour arose before him—for-,
tunes were made in a twinkling—so he sold out
—bought' largely,' dreamed of the riches of As-'
for sad of Rothschild, no more work. But at'
last the
_bubble burst. The Irish wouldn't all
stay,starved—prices •fell, and tow Mr. B. has'
found out that it is difficult to make auger',
hole* with a gimlet.
Miss C. is a nice,, pretty girl, and might be
very useful, too, for she has intelligence--but
she must be the ton--goes to plays, lounges on
sofas, keeps ter ;bed till noon, imagines th
she is a belle, disdains labor, forgets, or tried,
to that her father was a mechanic, and all foi,
what, why she is trying to-work herself up into
the belief that an auger hole can be made with,
a gimlet.

the information,as an be turned to profitable

there is of Rik the world, the better for the
farmer. Let. tii ' know, what others are doing;
