One Verse Wat Quite Sufficient, She
Coldly 8id.
A child-loving man was on his way
to Denver to transact eome important
business. During the afternoon be
noticed. In the opposite section ot the
Pullman, a sweet-faced, tired-appearing
woman, traveling with loor small
children. Feeling sorry for the moth
er, he soon made frier. ds with the l.t
tle ones.
Early the next morning ne heard
their eager questions behind the cur
tains of the berths, and the patient
"Yes, detr," of the ruo.hor as she
tried to dress them, and, looking out,
he saw a small white foot protruding
beyond the opposite curtain. Reach
ing across the aisle, he took hold of
the large toe and began to recite:
'This Hale pig went to market.
This little pig stayed at home;
This little pig had a piece of roast
beef,
This little pig had none;
This little pig cried 'woe-wee all the
way home."
"How is tnat?" Inquired the eager
man.
Thou the foot was suddenly with
drawd and a coid, quiet voice said:
"1 should think it was quite suffi
cient." Not Used to the Water.
Lady tgiving a little advice) "And
alw ays be careful of your associates.
boy often becomes like those he
ssocitites with,"
1'Wlr.i onger's boy "Why, Tve bin
iv i i ti h all me life, and can't swim
a sL'yke."
Pity She's No more.
There was ao old-fashioned woman
---:-.o would blush if company caught
In- with less than six different kinds
of cuke aud seven different kinds of
preserves in the bouse. If a gueat
liked coflVe for supper, she thought It
was right that she should have It.
Her pies were always rich, and she
used lots of butter and cream. She
had never beard of the diet eure, and
believed in people eating just what
tin liked. Wbut a pity It Is that she
isn't alive, so we folks who are tired
of dieting could go and visit her.
