Kitchen & Vansickle, Columbia, N,

hay, grain and straw in the United

a beauty and true to life.
The old veteran who attended the
raffle at Layton Thursday returned
to Dingmans with two fine turkeys,
and they didn't cost him much
either. Come over and try it again

A lady a day or two ago said she
was superstitious of the Dumber 13,
would not sit at table, or ride in a
load numbering 13. All bosh, just
look at the half dollar. On it are 13
stars, and the eagle holds an olive
branch having 13 leaves in one foot
ai d.13 arrows in the other. We are
not superstitious over those 13's.
Mr. Mabury of Paterson spent
Sunday with his father in law, Jos.
C. Warner, at Hainesville.
The Farmers Institute was held in
tha Layton M. E. church Deo. 7 and
8th. The attendance on Monday
evening filled the church, but the
attendance at the Tuesday sessions
were almost as large. The subjects
under discussion were treated in a
niastorly way, much to the satisfac
tion of those present. Mr. Holloy,
deputy or Wantage U range was
present and made a strong plea for
the starting of a grange here, and
there is a strong talk of forming
one.
The Ladies Aid society of Haines
ville will hold a chicken-pie supper
in the parlors of their church on
New Years Eve. Dec. 31st, .The
always have a good "layout" up
there, and all you nood is the price.

The local teachers institute, which
was hold here lat Saturday, was a
success iu spite of the recent fall of
snow which made it impossible for
many of the teachers to attend.

Joslah Hilferty, who has been ick
a long time, is now Bble to sit up a
short time each day.
Mrs.'M. Whysatl, who ts ill, is
slightly improving.
Frank Orce is improving slowly
from his sickness.
The Pike street ferry is running
half-way across the river now as far
as the pier of the Barret bridge and
from that point the pnesongors walk
on tue ice, tue river being frozen
over strong enough to allow the
weight of persons crossing. It is a
novel way of getting across the
river.
John Deckly, the popular shoe
maker and mender of shoos of Mata
morns, left town Tuesday evening
for New York City and will he
located in that city now. Matamoras
has lost a good workman.
Theodore Watts and wife are re-
joiclng over the arrival of a young
son. Mother and child are doing
nioely.
John Decker, on Cookson street,
has changed his residence to Port
Jorvis to be near his work this
winter.
Great preparations are being made
in the different churches for Christ
mas exercises. Very pleasant pro
grams will be rendered.
A-very pleasant surprise party
was tendered Mr. and Mrs. John
Robson at their home on Loder
street. It was the anniversary of
Mr. Kobson's birthday, and about
20 of bis friends assembled to pay
their respects. The evening was
spent in a very pleasant manner.
At the Epworth Church Sunday
school on Sunday afternoon there
was an eleotion of officers, namely :

Dec. 21. A very pleasing program
will be rendered.

and Schanno's ferry were both
running Sunday and both did a good

property formerly owned by Judge
Brown of Milford.
