by all and the well loaded tree was
soon stripped of its gifts, candies
and ornnges. All were well pleased.
The presents were purchased in New
York city by the Bible class, teacher.
Following the program the stewards
took charge of a chicken supper in
hasbment which proved a success,
$25.59 being the receipts.
The Christmas party given at
"Ardtornish" Saturday, Deo. 27th,
from 2.20 to 7 p. ru. by Mrs. Ryder
was au occasion long to be remem
bered by all present. About fifty
children accompanied by their
parents attended. The goodness
of each child is to be noted, for
nltho there were fifty tots, there was
no time to cry. Every child enjoyed
itself. Musio was furnished by
Mrs. M. D. Hughes, Miss Fuller and
Miss Kintner of New Jersey and
Mrs. J. Spackoian of Lehman. Mrs
Hughes played the supper march
and qU went two by two to the din
ing room whore a bountious repast
was enjoyed. Returning again np
stairs Mr. Rydur lighted a large
Christinas tree and each child re
oeived a nice souvenir of candy and
ech mother received the beautiful
gift of a paper weight with the
photograph of Mrs. Ryder, her
laughter and two sons out for t
drive. All returned home happy
Those present wish to return their
hearty thanks to Mr, and Mrs,
Rydur and family for so enjoyable a
time. It will long bo remembered.
A Liimtmas program was given
by the pupils of Centre school Djo
23rd uudur the Wdeftship of their
teacher, Miss Emma llorubeck, the
pupils were well pleased, each one
jecetved a gift of remembers noe
from their toucher. School is closed

will visit her parents in Tort Jervis

engage in the mercantile bnslness in

soon as the stock is appraised.
Wires are being laid aiid pulled
for the office of supervisor nt the
coming election. Now let the dis
contented, who are never satisfied,
choose proper men, . but not paste
themselves on the ticket.
Ed. Darragh and brother fished
in Nichecronk pond last Saturday
and lauded 33 pickerel. ,
Sleighing is fine down here,
Joseph Snyder has provided him
self with n team of large mules to
work around his sawmill at Minks
pond. ' -.
Chnrles Howey of Easton has
been visiting his brother, Theodore.
He was aooompanied home Saturday
by his neice, Elizabeth.
George Snyder is lumbering and
intends to enlarge his farm house
next spring.
Mrs. W. A. Brndly is spending
the holidays in Jersey City.
John Vater has returned 'rom the
hospital but is very wenk. '
Live pigs are getting scarce, the
butchers have been busy lately.
The biddys here are now attend
ing to business fairly well.
The question bt what feed is pre
ferable when one is short of fodder
and has to bay will be asked at the
farmers institute.
A big shooting match was held at
Bach's Hotel last Friday. The prizes
were a pig weighing about 700 and a
fat steer. . 6 . -. ,
The farmers' Institute Tuesday
was quite suoceastui. xi was neia
at Shady Lawn Cottage, which was
a very convenient place.

The ground remiuns white and our
hunters are hopping mad because the
law does not permit any hunting
(foxes excepted) while there is any
snow on the ground sulllcitfiit to track
a rabbit. The poor quail can thank a
kind providence for the above law,
rather than our Solon's at Trenton,
Miss Bertie Kintner and Ralph
Vanslokle of this town came home on
Wednesday evening to spend their
school vacations at their homes.
Ralph looks as if hard study agreed
with hlin as he has gained a lew
pounds since attending school. Both
are students. at the Htate Normal
School at Trenton. '" v
ChriHtmns was one'bf the dullest In
years, very few were seen around
town during the day, and no enter
tainments were In Sight so the na
tives worried through the day. A
few family reunion dinners were
given and they were not numerous.
From what I can learn there wiil
be a great dcul of changing of tenants
this coming spring. Many may not
move that are talking about it, still
there will le many changes.

The pupils of the public schools Df
Matamoras will give a ooncert at
ProHoott'a Hal), Friday evening,
January 18th. A very interesting
program Is being prepared. The
proceeds will be applied to a fund
for the purchase of a library for the
schools. The purchase of a library
will benefit tlie whole community,
and we trust the oitizens will kindly
give this cause their support. A
contribution of a hooit or books
would be very thankfully received.
The object is to instill into the minds
of the pupils a thirst for good read-
ing.
At Epworth Church, Sunday even-
ing, the pastor, Rev. Mr. Shoop, had
for his subject, "Jesus, Saviour."
The text was Matthew 1 :16, "That
He is Pre-eminently a Saviour from
Sins," The sermon was very inter
esting. Some of the Christmas pro
gram was rendered by the pupils of
the Sunday school. The attendance
was large. ' .
The J. E. 8. connected with Hope
ohurch will hold a business meeting
at the parsonage Friday evening.
Jan. 9. An election of officers will
take place. All the members are
requested to be present.
Mrs. George Bonnell and daughter,
Emogen, have gone on a visit to
Carbondale, to be the guests of Mrs.
George Laubshier, of that city.
The Blue Ribbon Society connect
ed with Hope ohurch will hold a
meeting at the home of Master
Willie Briard, on Adams street, Sat
urday afternoon, Jan. 3d, at 2.30 p.
Mrs. Hulet Seybolt, Jr., and
daughter, Ethel, of Dover, are the
guests of Mrs. Hulet Seybolt. Mrs.
Seybolt was a former resident of
Matamoras.
Miss Edna VanAkon, a teacher in
a grammar school in New York city,
is spending the Christmas holidays
at her home on Cunningham street.
Mrs. John Wonnacott, of Fishkill-
on-Hudson, is spending a few days
in Matamoras.
Miss Lillian Buchanan, of Milford,
is visiting he sister, Mrs. J. O.
Ryder.
George Keyes, of New York city,
who has been spending some time
with his family on MoCollum street,
and who has been ill for the past
week, is very much better. He was
able to go to New York Monday.
