It is quite probable that quails
and rabbits will be plentiful here
about this fall and Bob White and
Bunny will have a hard time of it
when the opeii season arrives. An
old gentleman in Lehman told the
writer any one was woloome to
huut on his premises and he owns
a good many acres of woodland
excepting those who have posted
their lands and they would be or

Mrs. Kate Lnndy, wife of Elijah

writing is a very sick woman.

went on the Newton steamer excur
sion to Coney Island on Friday Inst.
All report a good time and were
highly delighted with the trip.
The first trial for a long time wns
held at Layton. The litigants were
Montague parties and as usual a
crowd was in attendance. The at
torneys in the case were Wilton
Bennett of Port Jervis and James
B. Fullor of this town.
Loose stones are getting entirely
too numerous for the comfort of tho
traveling public and the attention
of the proper officials iu called to
this fact.
Wheeler II. Pock ham, aa emi
nent lawyer in New York, in a
speech upon the exoise question be
fore Mayor Low made this startling
assertion: "In Connecticut, I think,
the law still stands, which makes it
a misdemeanor for a man to kiss his
wife on a Sunday." I think New
Jersey has laws equally as ridicu
lous on her statute books and still in
force and probably Pennsylvania
has too.
Hay and harvest have been a try
ing time for our farmers and much
of both has been put in barns In a
damaged condition. Oats Are on
hand and are reported as being very
good.
Comrade Webb and daughter ot
Lafayette, N. J., spent a few days
last week visiting Comrade Padgett
near Miltord. He had two crates of
huckleberries, but whether ha pick
ed them that is another question.

The rains of Sunday night and
Monday gave 1.78 inches of water.
The ground must be full of wator
and our- fishermen complain .that
the Delaware stays too high to
catch any bass. At least very few
are being caught.
I am informed that the annual
picnio of the Farmers, Mechanics
and Tradesmen's association will be
held at Culver's on Saturday, Aug
nut 30. The Lako Grinnell pionio
will have the subject of good roads
discussed and it would be a good
thing if the Culver pionio would fol
low suit.
Mrs. Isaao Westbrook of Paterson
is spending a fortnight visiting rel a
tives and friends in Sussex and Pike
counties.
