In massing through the cemeteries I noticed many monuments have fallen down and In one ch-p a fine monu ment of the Fleming family had been driven over Ivy the party putting up the J. V. Major monument In the Layton cemetery breaking It into small pieces. That parly should be compelled to replace that stone for there was no eimse why they should drive where they did Jo-M'ph Johnson, who was badly hurt by being run over by his wagon some days ago, is improving rapidly and will sooif be able to go about ngaio. On Friday three of us took in the Krie excursion from Port Jorvls to New York, viz, P.nrtin Lilts, Linn lieptio and the., w riter ns guide. Well, we took in everything from the aquarium at the Battery, to Cen tral Park, anil the boys saw many things they never dreamed of. The day was clear and the sight from the dome of the World 'building was fine, which caused Bart to remark that It beat High Point, but, when we visited Keith's theatre and saw some high kicking we all voted that that leat the band. Our train on the return to Port Jervis made the run, K8 miles, in 2 hours and 17 minutes. We are to hold a special election for a member of congress on June 17 to Hticced Mr. Salmon, deceased. As the republ'u'ans do not propose nominating a candidate Mr. Flanagan will have a walk-over. The general opinion Is that this special election is superfluous hut the cost wont be. Complaints are heard from nil the fisheries along the Delaware, that the catch of shad is very light, more so than in many years. Likely the shad have heard of the New Jersey fish law and are migrating to other waters. This May will pnss into history as being one of the coldest in many years. The past week we had frost on two mornings nnd gardens were badly damaged, so much so that they will have to be replanted. Our board of freeholders has voted to build six miles of good roads in this county, for which let us be thankful. What we of the Delaware Valley most desire, instead of making two miles near Tuttles Corner, which I presume means the road across the mountain, is that they would start at Tuttles Corner and change the road from its present location and build it up along the stream, coming out on tho main road near Culvers Gap, thus avoiding the heavy hills in the present rond. Whether this will be done remains to be seen but one thing is sure, the road cannot lie made good where it is now and if the road is not changed there will be a lot of money wasted. PAUPAC. The weather continues hot nnd dry. Although the "early risers" t,f last week observed frost in many places no damage was done. The showers we have had were not suffic ient to thoroughly moisten the ground and a heavy rain would tie of great benefit to the growing crops. Messrs. George and William Wil liams of Brooklyn were visitors nt the honn of their brother, C. E. Williams, the latter part of the week. We are sorry to note the illness of our neighbor, 1. . Killam, who has been confined to his room with rheu matlsm the last few days. Mrs. Kelson Green of Glen Ridge spent Sunday with her parents, B. F. Killam and wife. Prof, and Mrs. Creasy and Mr. and Mrs. Scbluger of Hawley were the guests of C. K. Williams and family on t riday. Mrs. George Wilson spends part of this week nt .scranton. Kmil Gumble and wife of Milford visited at A. J. Kimble's over Sun day. Cluriliel Kimble returned from a two weeks visit among relatives in Scranton Monday. Mrs. John Zimmerman and infant daughter returned from New York la.st week. Barbara Zimmerman of Paupack was married on May -1st to a gentle' man of I'aterson, at which place they intend to nuiuo their future Inane. Henry Bennett of Scranton is spending his vacation with his moth er, Mrs. AuUta Bennett. Friends reort a decir.ed improve ment in the condition of Frank Mar tin and think that be will soon be among lm aaln. Chester Atherton of South Katnn have moved over to the farm of her brother, G. N. Killam. Rev. and Mrs. James 1'atey of Blooming Grove called on friends in m this place la.st eek. Memorial Day passed very quietly in this place ami was observed by but a few of our people. Why do so few visit our cemetery on that day? Our Sabbath school under the aus pices of George Wilson continues to to thrive. Great interest is shown among the members in its welfare, w bicli feeling we hope will remain as Ion:; us Uie school continues. 1'KKAtTO. Clothes Motht. The common clothes moths, tinea pcllionnlla Bill tinnolu blselliella, are small moths with pale ochre yellow heads and a wing expanse of about half an inch. In the larval state t hey feed npon nil kinds of an imal products: Woolen goods, car pets, tnrs, feathers, hair, linings and upholstering, and skins of birds and animals. The larva is worm-like, with a dull whitish head and the upper pirt of tho next Beg. anient of n reddish brown color.. It remains concealed a case made of the material on which it feeds and lined with silk which it spins They inflict their injury during the sum mer months and in houses that nre hoatej they also feed during the winter. The life-history of a clothes mott) is ns follows : The eggs are laid in the early part of the summer on the fabrics to be eaten and in oonooaled places. The larvae soon hatch and feed, making their case larger ns they grow. The winter is past in the larval state within the case, and in the early spring the larva trans forms into a pupa. In the spring, often in May, the adult moth emerges and lays its eggs. The small moths that are nttraoted to lights nt night are not clothes moths as the latter fly mostly by day and are in dark closets nt night. With these insects preventives are more important than remedies. Material that would be infested should be paoked away tightly in closed trunks or boxes with sprigs of cedar, camphor or naptba balls, and sealed with strips of paper over the cracks before the eggs are laid on the fabrics in the spring. If the eggs are laid before the garments are packed they will hatch and feed. Tight paper or linen b ig-t will also keep out the pests and sealed boxes ire not then need') I. When the Insects have once np pea rod they can be killed by very louse fumes of tobacco smoke or profuse odors of spirits of turpen tine in tightly closed rooms for twenty-f jnr hours, A spray of benzine i& also effective, but after its use rooms mnst be nired well be- fore taking a light into them.
