THE CHURCH COLUMN.
(By Rrv. C. K. Scuddkii.)
The topic for next Sabbath morn
ing is "Liove incarnate. in tue
evening Dr. Rymnn will preach.
Be sure nnd come to the lecture
tonight, at Brown's Hall. Dr. Ry
tnan will lecture on '-Paris and the
Parisians." Admission 25o. .
Conference is over and we are
here for another year. We believe
that this will be tho best year of
our stay thus tar. we are better
acquainted than ever and the better
knowledge of the place and people
adds both to the pleasure and use
fuluess of our service. We face the
future full of hope and confidence
for the success of tho church.
Both Dingman'a and Miitiunoras
have new ministers, Mr. Atwood
going to sparrowuuhit ana Mr.
Spencer to Sanford street, Newark.
Mr. Shoop, who comes to Matamor
as, is a very fine appearing umn and
comes with a .good record. We ex
pect large things of him.
Among the interesting features of
oonfereuoe wns the prohibition ban
quet on Saturday evening. Dr.
Wilding was toast master and Dr.
Baldwin, missionary secretary, was
one of the speakers. A large num
her of the strongest men of the con
ference are in the ranks of the pro
hibition party. If the pulpit has
any power the temperance move
ment will gain ground till the legal
ized' saloon dies.
The laymen's convention was
largely attended. These men in
the official positions of Ihe church
are- becoming an increasing power.
We believe that this is right and
confidently look for the time when
much of the work now done by
ministers will bo in the hnbds of
consecrated laymen and the minis
ters lef t free to do better pulpit and
pastoral work.
We learn that our brother clergy
man, Mr. Carpenter, has received a
call to a larger field and is to leave
Milford. We congratulate him on
his promotion and give our best
wishes for his success.

Give them oil cod-liver oil.
It's curious to see the result
Give it to the peevish, fret
ful child, and he laughs. Give
it to the pale, anaemic child,
and his face becomes rosy and
full of health. Take aflat
chested child, or a child that
has stopped growing, give him
the oil, and he will grow big
and strong like the rest.
This is not a new scheme.
It has been done for years.
Of course you must use the
right oil. Scott's Emulsion
is the one.
Scott's Emulsion neither
looks nor tastes like oil because
we are so cartful in making it
pleasant to take.
