The (il 1 gentleman nt Washington
who wears the striped troupers nnd
the high bat, bus been meddling
with our affairs. Wo don't, blame
hini altogether for we think he has
been unduly influenced, but wo do
think he should have investigated
before changing our mail sorvieo
Wo cannot soo who benefits by the
change, while wo know that many
of ns are sufferers ther.'by. We the
peoplo had practically accomplished
rural delivery. Wo had accoiudat-
ing mail carriers, who left, our mail
for ns nt our doors. Now some of
us nre thrown entirely off tho mail
route, and have to liavi 1 from one
to three miles to the office for our
mail or doiiend upon voluntary ser
vice. Should you happon in this
section any evening except Sunday
you may see a very small boy carry
ing for him a very largo basket.
This is our new mail carrier who
with American foresight has em
braced the opportunity to gain a
few dimes. We have endeavored to
aseortniti why this change should
have been made. We wore not con
sulted in the matter, and whan-we
did (too late) discover what was
about to happen our protest did no
good. It seems to have boon a case
of greod. There was a prospect of
contradicting to carry the mail over
tho new route and of sub-lettinyr
thus Raining porhniw a coupla of

thing wns munngod we do not know
but it U ru i no rod tli.it political in

the present contractor could not be
prevented from underbidding an. I
this part of the plan has miscarried.
We would uot do any kicking in this
case il we tho sufferers were in tho
minority but it is not ho and we nre
indignant that wo should be made
to suffer while the change benefits
no one. The in ij rity of ns are Re
publican voters and we behove in
the principles of our party but wo
have become disgusted with the
greed of large and small fry politi
cians and we propose to do our little
best when opportunity offers to
show that tho rights of the people
should be respected. Dkfacto.
