EDITORIAL.
OUR ANCIENT HISTORY.
Is the series of descriptions of the
Hotels of Milford now being publish
ed in the Press, we sinilpy desire to
rescue from oblivion such facts
relating to their enrly history ns
may yet be within the recollection
of some of the older people. This
information, while perhaps possess
ing no great historical value, is of
much local interest, and we should
feel uiul;;r many obligations if those
who have knowledge of well authen
ticated facts will make them known
so they may be incorporated iu the
proper place. The boundary be
tween the prosent and past, so far
as tho memory ot those who were
then active is concerned, is fast be
coming an insuporablo barrier, nud
the twilight of seventy years ago is
rapidly fading into impenetrable
darkness. '" If the old people would
give their recollection of early scenes,
events, and persona, they would add
much to the information and interest
of our early local history and confer
a boon on tho present nnd coming
generations. Iu many other towns
tho newspapers published iu early
days furnish a great amount of local
matter, and in Milford the first
paper appears to have boon published
in Juno 1827. (We have a copy of
Vol. 1, No. 38, dated March 8, 1828,
printed for tho proprietor by T. A.
Wells) but it does not contain a sin
gle local or personal item. If the
old poople would nmuse themselves
in their leisure moments by jotting
down their rocollectiou of early as
sociates and pooplo, and tho location
of buildings and occupants, with
such anecdotes, or other matter, as
throw light on past events, giving
dates as nearly as may bo, it would
serve an excellent purpose, and be
highly appreciated not only by thoir
families but tho community gener
ally, and by receiving propor credit
in the publication thoy would erect
for thomsolvos a nionumont more
enduring than brass.
VANDALISM.
It is seldom that the gonial pro
prietor of tho Crissruan House allows
tho unfailing serenity of his temper
to be ruflled, but last Friday morn
ing discovering that some one had de
liberately girdled a fine young maple
on his lawn, and then broken it off,
he gave way slighty to his pent up
feelings, and for a briof period the
air in that vicinity was filled with a
fourth of July display of verbal py
rotechnics. Such acta of wilful des
truction of property as breaking
down growing shade trees deserves,
and should moot with, severe punish
ment if the perpetrators could be
ascertained. It is bad enough that
our Town Council, or peace officer,
allows night to bo made hideous
with the drunken brawls and disor
derly conduct of a coterie of young
men(?;whoso sense of decency, or at
least regard for the feelings of their
families, should be sufficient to deter
them from their disgraceful conduct
but when this spirit is allowed to
run riot to the wanton destruction
of property, it is high time that a
check be put on it, by arrest and
a determined effort by tho proper
authorities to enf oroe decency, order,
aud law,
Almost every article of farm pro
auction lias auvancexl m price S'uce
the enactment of the Dingley law.
This is largely due to tho increased
demand for farm products con
sequent Uou Increased employment
and increusud euruings of those de
pendant on manufacturing indus
tries for occupation and earnings.
It appears tluit the stocks of wool
which ere brought into the country
prior to tho enactment of the
l'ingley law were even larger than
supposed. The supply still holds
out, and to such an unexpected do
(true, that the prices of wool have
been temporarily affected by it.

Sarsoporllla
is a specific for" scrofula in its
worst and most malignant forms.
Scrofula is a blood disease. Ayer's
Sarsaparilla is a blood purifying
medicine. Mineral medicines only
drive scrofula below the surface.
Dr. J. C. Ayer's Sarsaparilla is a
vegetable remedy and it eradicates
the disease. There is no remedy
for scrofula equal to Ayer's Sarsa
parilla. " I was cured of a long-standing esse of
scrofula by Dr. J. 0. Ayer's Sarsapsrilla,
The disease first manifested Itself when I
was a child, by breaking out in red blotches
all over my body. I was not free from the
trouble nntil I took several bottles of
Ayer's Sarsaparilla. That effected a per
manent cure.' Mas. E. H. Snyder, Lehigh
