AN EDITION OF THE TIMES LEADER
Kelci Gibbons, killed last year in car accident,
will be remembered during Oct. 6 event
SUSAN DENNEY
Dallas Post Correspondent
The Gibbons family of Dallas
was changed forever last sum-
mer when daughter Kelci was
tragically killed in a car acci-
dent on Route 487. A bright
and happy spirit, Kelci is now
sorely missed by her parents
Ray and Kelly, older brother
Brian and twin sister Michelle.
.. Kelci was well-known in the
k Mountain area. She and
Wor twin sister served as left
and right midfielders on the
2007 Dallas High School soc-
cer team which won the state
championship.
The family now wants to cre-
ate something good to honor
Kelci’s memory.
The Kelci Ever After
Inaugural 6K and 2K Memory
Walk will be held on Oct. 6 at
Frances Slocum Park. The race
event begins at 11 a.m. The
entry fee is $20 and includes a
tie-dye t-shirt.
The memory walk is a reflec-
tion of things that Kelci loved.
Kelci loved tie-dye and peace
symbols and enjoyed the out-
doors.
The event will include a flat
6K trail and road run along the
lake shore and an easy 2K walk
on a level path.
Those interested can reg-
ister online at www.kelcigib-
bons.com or register the day
of the event. Registration on
the day will begin at 9 a.m. and
close at 10:40 a.m.
Awards for the top three male
Kelci Gibbons will be remembered during a walk on Oct. 6.
and female finishers as well as
awards in a number of age cat-
egories will be presented.
The family chose Frances
Slocum Park for the memory
walk because it was one of
Kelci’s favorite places. And
Kelly Gibbons said, “She loved
fall, too.”
Kelly Gibbons said the event
L
-LE
is important to the family.
“We don’t have birthdays or
Christmas to give things to
Kelci. We wanted something
positive to give to her.”
The family wants to cel-
ebrate Kelci’s life and to raise
funds for a scholarship in her
memory. The scholarship will
be awarded to a student at
IST!
Lake-Lehman or Dallas High
School. The family also has
plans to sponsor a local youth
soccer team with funds raised
because soccer was so impor-
tant in Kelci’s life.
There will be chances for gift
certificates as well as raffles,
food and music during the
memory walk.
“We have planned a very
peaceful and fun event,” Kelly
explained.
The family hopes that Kelci’s
friends and supporters will
turn out for the event. “We
would just like a huge amount
alking in Si o Beto
in Those interested
com or fIogiter tt the day of
of community support,” Kelly
said.
Those wishing to honor
someone they have lost can
purchase a tribute poster as
well. Kelly said the event was
not just about their family.
“Everybody has someone that
they've loved and lost. They
can walk in memory of that
person.”
Gibbons said of Kelci’s
death, “You can’t control what
you're given.” But she said of
the memory walk, “We're try-
ing to make the best of a situa-
tion that has no best.”
