Gina Evans, president of
the Evans Family reunion,
said she’s only been
attending the gathering
for the past 10 years. The
Nicholson resident said
when she realized it was
an ongoing tradition, she
decided to get involved.
“(My husband and I)
only knew two or three
members of the Evans
family, so they were the
only ones we knew at
the reunion,” she said.
“Everyone we saw was a
stranger.”
Now Evans is the key
planner of the reunion
every year, which is
Madeline Rifenbery, right, of Beaumont, cannot recall all the
names the many relatives who have attended the Evans family
reunion over the years. Her brother Cecil Vopleus listens.

meet are not concerned
with history,” he said. “I
go to this reunion because
it’s a family tradition.”
