JACKSON TOWNSHIP
Supers extend sewer project *
By SARAH HITE
shite@mydallapost.com
Supervisors reorganized and
approved an extension of a sewer
relocation project Tuesday night.
Supervisor John Wilkes Jr. was
reappointed as chairman and Su-
pervisor Al Fox was reappointed
as vice chairman and treasurer.
Fox was also sworn in at the
meeting for another term on the
board.
Rick Rose was reappointed as
vacancy board chairman.
The board approved the follow-
ing appointments for the Back
Mountain Regional Emergency
Management Agency: Harry Vi-
vian as chief, Wilkes as deputy
chief, James Welby as assistant
chief and Barney Dobinick as as-
sistant chief.
The following appointments
were made to the township emer-
gency management agency: An-
drew Salko as coordinator, An-
drew Sholtis as deputy coordina-
tor and Tim Bernick as second
deputy coordinator.
Gregory Supey was appointed
as the township engineer.
The board appointed the Dal-
las Area Municipal Authority as
the board’s sewage enforcement
officer.
A 1.75 percent raise was ap-
proved for non-uniformed and
non-contracted employees.
The board authorized a dona-
tion of insurance payment and
sewage fees for the township vol-
unteer fire department.
Meetings were scheduled for 6
p.m. on the first Monday of the
month in the municipal building,
with the exception of meetings in
May, September and November.
Gene Salko was appointed to
the zoning hearing board and Da-
vid Roskos, Jack Jones and James
Mahon were appointed as alter-
nates.
Tracey Haffner-Damario, Wal-
ter Billings and Joseph Stager
were appointed to the planning
commission, with Mitchell
Smallow serving as an alternate.
At a regular meeting that fol-
lowed, Solicitor Jeff Malak told
supervisors he is still trying to
contact representatives from
Larksville Borough about the re-
payment of road maintenance
fees after the two municipalities
ended a 49-year agreement for
the maintenance of Steele Road
in November.
The agreement was terminat-
ed after Jackson Township was
not compensated for years of
maintenance work done on the
road.
Malak is trying to contact the
borough in order to avoid litiga-
tion.
The board also approved an ex-
tension for the Hillside Road sew-
er relocation project to the end of
January. Wilkes said the town-
ship is waiting for an approval
from the county engineer.
The project has been ongoing
since 2006 when heavy rains
overwhelmed the sewer lines
near the Hillside Bridge, causing
flooding of nearby properties.
The next meeting of the Jack-
son Township Board of Supervi-
sors will be held at 6 p.m. on
Monday, Feb. 6 in the municipal
building.
