KNIGHTS DONATE TO BMT CHURCHES Continuing with tradition, the Dallas Council of the Knights of Columbus again this year made its annual $200 Christmas donations to each of the following Back Mountain churches: Gate of Heaven, Our Lady of Victory and St. Theresa's. The donation is to provide help to needy families during the Christmas holiday. He was born March 30, 1914, in Hunlock Creek, and spent his lifetime as a lumber and timber- man in the Hunlock Creek area. He also donated the first live na- tional Christmas tree for dis- play at the White House in 1973. From that tree, he re- ceived, as a gift, the ornament for Pennsylvania. Surviving are his son, Charles Jr., Hunlock Creek; five grand- children; a brother, Carl, Hun- lock Creek; a sister, Olive Rei- gle, Lewistown; his companion, Myrtle Gensel, Shickshinny. BELLES - Robert Z., 95, of Beaumont, died Thursday, De- cember 22, 2011, in the Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, was a graduate of Noxen High School, class of 1934, and re- ceived his Bachelor’s of Science degree in education from Mans- field State College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. After the war, he re- turned to teaching at the Noxen High School. He played a vital role in the jointure process of many of the Back Mountain community schools. In 1965, he was ap- pointed supervising principal of the Lake-Lehman School Dis- trict. He was later approved by the Department of Education and appointed superintendent of Lake-Lehman School District and, after 38 years of service, re- tired in July of 1978 and the Lake Elementary Building at Harveys Lake was named the Robert Z. Belles Building. He was a member of the St. Luke’s Reformation Church, Noxen, Limited “20” Gun Club secretary and treasurer for over 50 years, George M. Dallas #531 F.& A.M. and the Caldwell Con- sistory, Valley of Bloomsburg for over 50 years and the Irem Temple Shrine. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Thelma Dietz; sons, Robert FE. Centereach, N.Y.; Dr. Terry A., Cogan Sta- tion; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Mar- garet Edwards, Dallas; nieces and nephews. BIGGS - Linda L. (Spencer), 60, of Prichard’s Road, Hunlock Creek, died Friday, December 23, 2011, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, after a lengthy ill- ness. She was born on July 6, 1951, in Nanticoke, and was a mem- ber of the Brethren in Christ Church, Hunlock Creek. Surviving are her mother, Gladys Lamoreaux Spencer, of Hunlock Creek; a sister, Char- lotte Redmond, of Ormond Beach, Florida; brothers, Ed Spencer, of Hunlock Creek; Lar- ry Spencer, of Nanticoke; Leroy Spencer, of New Martinsville, West Virginia; Mark Spencer, of West Nanticoke; nieces and ne- phews. BRONGO - Connie, 87, of Dallas, died Thursday, Decem- ber 22, 2011, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. She was born in Bagnare, Ca- labria, Italy and was a faithful member of Gate of Heaven Church and the Altar and Ros- ary Society. She was an active member of the Mercy Center Auxiliary. She participated in Mary’s Mi- sericordia water aerobics class- es and belonged to the Bowling League of Dallas. She was for- merly employed by The Dallas Post. Surviving are a daughter, Lin- da Engler, Virginia Beach, Va; one grandson and one great grandson. DURLING - Francis (Fran) W., 44, of Noxen, died Saturday, December 24, 2011, at his home following a courageous 15 month battle with cancer. He was born on August 27, 1967, was a 1985 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and had been employed at Pulver- man Precision Metals in Dallas and Trion Industries in Wilkes- Barre prior to his illness. He was a member of the South Mountain Land Associ- ation. Surviving are his parents, Willard and Hazel Durling, of Tunkhannock; his wife of 20 years, the former Peggy Siglin; sons, Brian, Matt and Josh, all at home; brother, Rick, Tunk- hannock; sister, Florence Boner, Tunkhannock; nieces and neph- ews. NIKODEN - Marlene M., 42, Harveys Lake, died Sunday, De- cember 18, 2011, in Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Pittston, was a graduate of Seton Catholic High School, class of 1987, and also of Bloomsburg University. She worked in commercial loans with Regency Financial, West Pittston, and Ameriquest, Wilkes-Barre, and later with Ci- tizens Bank until her illness. She was a member of the Har- veys Lake Yacht Club, Ameri- can Legion Riders of Harveys Lake, and was an associate member of the Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dal- las. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, veys Lake. Surviving are her mother, Mary (Degraba) Monichelli; her husband, Thomas, Harveys Lake, a brother, Joseph Moni- chelli, Nazareth. She was born in Nanticoke, on April 22, 1930, and was edu- cated in Nanticoke schools. She was a member of both Holy Resurrection R.O. Parish in Nanticoke and St. Michael's R.O. Parish in Old Forge. Surviving are her husband, Nicholas Oselinsky Jr., to whom she was married for 56 years; her son, Dr. David, of State Col- lege; her brother, Frank Krap- cho Jr., of Columbia, Maryland; and two grandchildren. PENKROT - Leonard, 74, of Shavertown, died Monday, De- cember 26, 2011, at the Hamp- ton House, Hanover Township. He was born on February 3, 1937 in Ashley, and was a gradu- ate of the former Ashley High School, Class of 1954. A peace-time veteran, he hon- orably served his country with the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania. During his ser- vice, he was stationed with Bat- tery B of the 109th Field Artil- lery, Nanticoke. He was honor- ably discharged from his service on November 16, 1962, having attained the rank of Corporal. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he was employed for 31 years by Procter and Gamble, Mehoopany. He was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, Luzerne. Surviving are his wife, B ra, with whom he celebrat: 52nd wedding anniversary on September 26, 2011; his son, Da- vid, of Wilmington, Del.; his daughter, Amy Symeon, of Sha- vertown,; five grandchildren; sis- ters, Helen Przewlocki, Irene Matukaitus and Gloria Deitz, all of Ashley; nieces and neph- ews. He was born in Edwards on June 19, 1939, and was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, class of 1957. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of 20 years, serving in Naval Avia- tion as a flight engineer. He served in Vietnam, doing one tour as a Naval Advisor and 10 years in the Naval Reserve.
