Dodging balls to benefit Zach Shoemaker
Six-year-old Zachary Shoemak-
er was the center of attention at
the 109th Field Artillery Armory
on July 11 when the Third Annual
Zachary Shoemaker Benefit
Dodge Ball Tournament was
held.
Zachary and his mother, Traci,
of Shavertown, were involved ina
devastating automobile accident
on Lower Demunds Road during
Memorial Day weekend 2008.
Zack, then 3, was life-flighted to
Geisinger Medical Center in Dan-
ville where he survived brain sur-
gery and spent several weeks in a
coma.

friend, Traci Shoemaker. The
first tournament involved eight
teams. Since the first tourna-
ment, more than $2,000 has been
raised.

The Music Box Repertory
Company will present one of
the greatest American musi-
cals, “Gypsy” playing through
August 1, at the Music Box
Dinner Playhouse, 196
Hughes St., Swoyersville.
The musical tells the story
of legendary vaudeville per-
former Gypsy Rose Lee and
her overbearing stage mother,
Rose. The show is packed
with show-stopping numbers,
such as “Everything’s Coming
Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain
You” and “If Momma Was
Married.”
Amanda Reese, of Dallas,
stars as Gypsy Rose Lee. A
slew of regular Music Box
performers will also be fea-
tured, such as Bill Lipski, Mi-
chael Gallagher, Dana Feigen-
blatt, Matthew Dane, Jessica
Werbin, Amanda Shaffern and
10-year-old Madison Woods
who starred as Annie earlier
in the season.
Reese graduated from Dal-
las High School and DeSales
University. She has performed
in numerous Music Box pro-
ductions, including “Annie,”
“Jekyll & Hyde,” “Sweeney
Todd,” “The Great American
Trailer Park Musical” and
“Fiddler on the Roof.”
Rounding out the talented
cast are Sabrina Patchoski,
Tammy and Jade Fallbright,
Kyle Segarra, Anna Markoch,
Sue Drake, George Steltz,
Lenny Markoch, Brendan
Woods, Alexa and Alec Ryn-
cavage, Ronnie Ziomek, Skyl-
er Makuch, Joe Debbieri,
Hannah Kasko and Miss Mo-
na.

Illustrious Sir W. Roy Smith,
potentate of Irem Shrine, an-
nounces the Summer Concert Se-
ries to be held at Irem Country
Club, Dallas.
The concerts have been an
Irem tradition for over 50 years,
featuring Irem Shrine units and
local talent.
Held at the County Club pavil-
ion, the concerts are held at 8
p.m. on Sunday evenings. They
are free of charge and open to the
public.
