OBITUARIES
CREEDEN - Michael K., 54, of
Tunkhannock, died Monday, Feb.
22, 2010 in Nevada.
Born on Oct. 18, 1955 in Ne-
wark, N.J., he attended Tunkhan-
nock Area High School and was a
U.S. Army veteran. He was em-
ployed by Calex Logistics of Pitt-
ston.
Surviving are his wife, Betsy
Creeden; sons, Brice Gibbs and
Christopher Faux; daughter, Mol-
ly Creeden; sisters, Linda Jowett,
Sandy Tilkonis, Shawn Clark, An-
na Life, Mary Redan and Angel
Desmarais; brother, Mark; sever-
al grandchildren; numerous niec-
es and nephews.

tal, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,
TN 38105.
EPSTEIN - Charles M., of Dal-
las, 90, died on Thursday, Feb. 25,
2010 at Wilkes-Barre General
Hospital.
Born at home on South Fran-
klin Street, Wilkes-Barre, on Ja-
nuary 15, 1920, he was educated
at Harry Hillman Academy, King-
ston schools, Wyoming Seminary
and graduated from Horace
Mann, N.Y. He attended the Uni-
versity of Virginia.
He served in the US. Army
from November 1941 until Octo-
ber 1945 when he was honorably
discharged as a First Lieutenant.
During his service, he earned the
bronze star and five battle stars.
When he returned to Wilkes-
Barre, he began his professional
career with the family business,
Liberty Throwing Company. He
served as CEO of Liberty and re-
mained active in the business, go-
ing to the office every day until
his death.
He served on many boards as
board member and/or officer/
chairman, including the Boy
Scouts, Westmoreland Club,
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Cam-
pus, College Misericordia, First
Eastern Bank, United Fund,
North Mountain Club, Wilkes-
Barre General Hospital, SPCA,
Children’s Service Center,
Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Com-
merce, Planned Parenthood and
the Heritage House. He chaired
the United Fund Drive, the
Wilkes-Barre Industrial Fund
Drive and the Planned Parent-
hood Drive.
Surviving are three daughters,
Linda Epstein, Baltimore, Md.;
Susie Fishel, Lexington, N.C;
and Sally Epstein, Santa Fe, N.M.;
five grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; and two nephews.

KITTLE - Tommy Allan, 19, of
Sweet Valley, died Thursday, Feb.
25, 2010 in Ross Township from
injuries he suffered in an automo-
bile accident.
Born on June 6, 1990, he gradu-
ated from Northwest Area High
School in 2008 and was presently
attending Luzerne County Com-
munity College, Nanticoke.
He was employed part time at
the Dollar General in Shaver-
town.
Surviving are his mother, Judy
Naugle Kittle, with whom he re-
sided; brothers, Corey, Josh and
Tyler, all at home; paternal grand-
mother, Dolores Kittle, Sweet
Valley; maternal grandparents,
Lloyd and Gloris Naugle; aunts,
uncles and cousins.
KOSAKOWSKI - Peter L. Jr,
63, of Dallas, died Thursday, Feb.
25, 2010 after a sudden illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec.
16, 1946, he graduated from
Wilkes-Barre Township High
School, Class of 1964, and attend-
ed Lackawanna Junior College,
Scranton.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Ar-
my, serving from 1966 to 1968 and
retired from the Department of
Corrections in 2004.
He was a member of the North
End Slovak Club and the Dallas
American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Mary
Ann; daughter, Kristen Handel,
of Coopersburg; son, Jeff, of Har-
risburg; mother, Margaret Sisko
Kosakowski, of Wilkes-Barre
Township; brother, Paul, of
Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Rose Ann
Martin, of Mountain Top; and
Lois Zluchowski, of Cove
Springs, Fla.; nieces and neph-
ews.

Meadows Nursing Center, Dal-

She worked as a cook during
her younger years.
Surviving are her daughter,
Linda Rice, of Trucksville; one
grandchild; brother, Leslie Sut-
ton, of Harveys Lake.
LOGAN - Richard W. (Dick)
Sr., 86, of Northmoreland Town-
ship, Falls, died Monday, March
1, 2010 at his home

schools. He was a veteran of Ar-
my service during World War II
and served in the European Thea-
ter in the Rhineland, Ardennes
and Central European campaigns
with the 394th Infantry Re-
giment. He received the Good
Conduct Medal, the Meritorious
Unit Award, the American Thea-
ter Service Medal, the European-
African-Middle Eastern Service
Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and
the Victory Medal.
He was employed by Potlatch
Co., Ransom, for 37 years, retir-
ing in 1988.
He was a member of the Dy-
mond Hollow United Methodist
Church and Post 1227, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Duryea.
Surviving are his wife, Ella La-
verne Wolfe Logan; daughter,
Mrs. Sandra Jervis, Tunkhan-
nock; son, Richard, Falls; six
grandchildren; six great-grand-
children; nieces and nephews.

MUSSER - Miriam L., 66, of
Hickory Drive, Tunkhannock,
died on Sunday, Feb.28, 2010 at
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Med-
ical Center, after a courageous
battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Caernarvon Township,
sheretired after 20 years as a cook
and cafeteria manager at the Ros-
lund Elementary School.
She was a member of the Lake-
view Mennonite Church in Sus-
quehanna where she was in-
volved in music and worship lead-
ing.
Surviving are her husband of
45 years, Bob; a daughter, Maria,
of Canadensis; a son, Tim, of Lan-
caster; three grandchildren; sis-
ters, Alice Martin, of Ephrata;
Rhoda, Kalend, of Morgantown,
W. Va; and Ruth, of Lititz; broth-
ers, Arthur, of Narvon; Harold, of
Anderson, S.C.; and Robert, of
Blue Ball; nieces and nephews.

PHILLIPS - L.R., of Tunkhan-
nock, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010
at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, af-
ter being stricken with an appar-
ent heart attack.
Born in Sayre, he was a gradu-
ate of Tunkhannock High School,
class of 1969, and was a graduate
of the University of Virginia.
He was employed by the law
firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges,
of New York City, as a senior para-
legal.
Surviving are his son, Ryan, of

A group of 10 men, women
and young adults from the Back
Mountain Harvest Assembly
will embark on a life-changing
adventure on March 17 when it
travels to Minagua, Nicaragua to
work with 15 to 20 young girls
who live in a refuge home called
the Haviliah House.
The BMHA group will spend
time playing games, singing
songs and teaching life skills to
the girls. Homemade crocheted
blankets have been made for the
girls. With limited resources, the
Group planning mission trip
Havikliah House may need roof
patching, electrical work, plumb-
ing and wall reconstruction, which
the volunteers hope to accomplish.
The group is accepting dona-
tions of vitamins, aspirin, cold med-
ications, sanitary products, tooth-_
