Resolution approvals may result in reimbursements
By EILEEN GODIN
Dallas Post Correspondent
Supervisors approved two
resolutions which may result in
reimbursement of funds used
for snow removal and gave an
update on the progress of the re-
cycling center at their regular
meeting Monday night.
Two resolutions regarding
the two recent winter storms on
February 10 and 25 were ap-
proved.
Attorney Jeffery Malak said
the resolutions are a prelimina-
ry measure needed to apply for
possible funds through the Penn-
sylvania Emergency Manage-
ment Agency. He said if PEMA
releases funds due to the de-
clared state of emergency, the
township would need the resolu-
tions in place before applying.
The possible funds could reim-
burse the township for part of
the cost of snow removal. Malak
said he does not know if funds
will be available but the supervi-
sors are being prepared if the op-
portunity arises.
The resolution indicate that
the storms were declared a state
of emergency and caused dam-
age and endangered the welfare
of residents.
Chairman John Wilkes Jr. was
pleased to announce previous
problems of household trash and
other items being mixed in with
recyclables areimproving.
“The problem is rectifying it-
self,” he said.
Last month the township’s
free recycling program was in
jeopardy due to people dumping
non-recyclable debris in with re-
cyclables.
Wilkes said residents are be-
ing more mindful and also attri-
butes the change to moving
security cameras for better
viewing of recycling dump-
sters during non-business
hours. Wilkes said flyers on
proper recycling procedures
will be distributed to resi-
dents again.
In other news, supervisors
authorized Northmoreland
Township to participate in
the LAG municipal auction
planned for April 10.
The next supervisors meet-
ing will be held at 6 p.m. on
Monday, April 5, in the mu-
nicipal building.
Four blood drives are scheduled
The American Red Cross will
conduct four blood drives in the
Back Mountain during the
month of March.
The first drive will be held
from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursday,
March 11, at the Lake Noxen Ele-
mentary School, Harvey’s Lake.
A second drive will be held
from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday,
March 22, at the Dallas American
Legion. The double red unit is
scheduled to be at this drive.
A drive will be held from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 27,
at the Kingston Township Munic-
ipal Building, 180 E. Center St.,
Shavertown.
The last drive will be a com-
munity drive from 9 am. to 3
p.m. on Wednesday, March 31,
at Penn State University/
Wilkes-Barre campus, Old Route
115, Lehman.
