Harris dancers will stage “The Anyone can be a train engineer ® | * Wonder of Christmas’ today “The Wonder of Christmas” will be staged by dancers from the Joan Harris Centre at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 13, at the E. L. Meyers High School auditorium in Wilkes-Barre. “Rockette-style” production numbers open the show and are complimented by routines staged to both long-established favorites and fashionable rendi- tions of the music that defines this most joyful time of the year. Once the production be- gins, guests will be treated to traditional dances, inspirational lyrical pieces, narrative story telling and good old fashion song and dance routines all staged to a plethora of seasonal classics. Two of the feature scenes in the show will be a humorous dance and narrative treatment to the classic poem, “The Night Before Christmas” and a set of stirring dances staged to repre- sent the Nativity to remind ev- eryone of the true “reason for the season.” Tickets for “The Wonder of Christmas” are $12 at the door. For more information, call 287- 7977. Anna Giacometti, of Dallas, is one of the Joan Harris Dancers who will be appear in “The Wonder of Christmas" today at E.L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre. Dozens of children, with their parents and grandpar- ents, have been running holi- day electric trains in the win- dow of the downtown Barnes & Noble King’s/Wilkes Col- lege bookstore on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre. The free display will contin- ue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18. The four-foot-square display has lighted houses, a puffing Pennsylvania Railroad steam engine, a classic red-and-yel- low Santa Fe passenger train that talks, a Gandy Dancer’s work car with a flashing light, skaters on a pond, an ice fish- erman, stylish cars and trucks from the 1950s, telephone poles and snowy Christmas trees. The train and the display are free and handicapped-accessi- ble. “People in wheelchairs come in and ran the trains,” says Rob- ert Phillip Bomboy, a former resident of Shavertown and an author who operates model train displays year round in a program called Wheelchair En- gineers at the Columbia Mall on Interstate 80. “This layout is the right height so that handicapped people and anyone else can have fun with it,” Bomboy said.
