As a college freshman, Rose Robacker decided her life's
work would be helping others. Since then she has had several
careers and has worked as a volunteer in the ghettos of New
York to the jailhouses in Wayne.and Pike Counties. Rose
served as a Franciscan nun for 28 years, earning three masters
degrees from Notre Dame and Columbia Universities in
chemistry, physics and theology.
She spent 47 years teaching chemistry and physics to high
school and college students, writing several text books in
the process. Retirement brought more opportunities to help
people via tutoring, writing and involvement in community
and national organizations.
Very devoted to eliminating adult literacy, Rose has spent the
last 16 years teaching inmates to read, helping several obtain
their GED degrees. She also instituted a program at the Wayne
County jail on how to get a job and keep it, and is currently
establishing a small library there.
Throughout Rose’s eight decades, she has made a difference
in the lives of many people.
