ight boys and girls from Dallas Area, ages 10-14, were
named local champions of the 2008 Knights of Colum-
bus Free Throw Championship and have earned the
right to compete at the district level. Fr. John J. O’Le-
ary Knights of Columbus Council #8224 sponsored
the local competition at Gate of Heaven gymnasium.
All youngsters ages 10-14 were eligible to participate.
Korri Wandel was the 10-year-old girls’ champion and Jonathan
Wilson was the winner of the 10-year-old boys’ division.
In the 1l-year-olds’ bracket, Michele Fromel was the girls’
champion and Brendan Baloh was the boys’ champion.
Twelve-year-old winners in the girls’ and boys’ divisions were
Kristen Williams and Ryan Zaputicky:.
The 13-and 14 year-old boys’ divisions were won by John Mur-
ray and Mike Pace.
Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the con-
tests. Each of these winners will compete in the district competi-
tion to be held on February 10 at West Side Vo-Tech School, Prin-
gle, with an eye toward moving on to the state and international
levels.

Lake-Lehman wrestler Jordan Jiunta is on his way to a13-0 deci-
sion over Paul Williams of Pittston Area in a 140-pound bout as
Williams attempts to turn over and escape Jiunta's clutch. The
Black Knights, however, were defeated by the Patriots, 47-22.

33-10 in Dallas Youth Basketball

thy Tire and Kyle Archer led Met-
life Securities with 10 points. De-
rek Peters had five rebounds
while Brendan Balara and Mi-
chael Smith led the defense.

Gattuso Group Accountants &
Consultants remained in first
place with a thrilling 28-25 win
over Fieldhouse.
Connor Motley, Tanner Gattu-
so, Nick Malkemes and Jason An-
derson all scored for Gattuso
Group while Spencer Bowanko
led the Fieldhouse with 11 points.
Lee Eckert led the rebounding
and Jack Murray played fine de-
fense.
Burger King 12
Walgreen Drug 9
Aaron Yurko led the offense
while Kyle Besecker, Jacob Be-
secker and Mitch Kelly played ex-
cellent defense as Burger King
won a hard fought 12-9 game over
Walgreens Drug Stores.
Stephen Darling led Walgreens
with three points while Andy
Zeyher played great defense. Ja-
cob Ondish and Daniel Sweeney
controlled the boards.
Eastern Penn 19
Fieldhouse 11
Chad Phillips scored nine
points while Ray Ostroski added
six to lead Eastern Penn Supply
Co. to a hard-fought 19-11 win
over Fieldhouse Sporting Goods.
Jack Tomko and Peter Capita-
no added two points each for
Eastern Penn. Kyle Piscorik led
the offense for The Fieldhouse
while Christian Wargo played
fine defense.
Quad Three 28
Metlife Securities 15
Ryan Martin scored 12 points
and Joey Bevevino added eight as
Quad Three topped Metlife Secu-
rities, 28-15.
Jimmy Barlow added two
points and Paul Weaver and Da-
vid Orehotsky played great de-
fense for Quad. For Metlife, Tim
Elston played well, scoring four
points. Cory Metz added two
points and Anthony Brominski
one while Paul Smith and Mitch-
ell Winters played fine defense.
Derek Peters pulled down several
key rebounds.
Eastern Penn 17
Quad Three 14
Ray Ostroski scored a game-
high 12 points, including four key
free throws in the last two min-
utes of the game, as Eastern Penn
Supply Co. continued its hot play
with a key 17-14 win over Quad
Three Group.Chad Phillips and
Jack Tomko also nailed game-
winning free throws in the fourth
quarte, while Nick Mathers led
an excellent defensive effort. Da-
niel Mingey was the leading
scorer for Quad Three while Jim-
my Barlow added two points.

DYB Skills Competition
slated for Jan. 28, 30
The annual DYB Third/
Fourth Grade Skills Competi-
tions will be held the last week
in January at Dallas Elementary.
The fourth grade boys will hold
their skills competition on Mon-
day, Jan. 28, while the third
grade boys event will take place
on Wed. Jan. 30.
Start time each night is 5:30
pm. :
The top three in free throws
and lay-ups in each grade will
receive trophies.
Baseball/softball
registration is Feb. 2
Back Mountain Baseball/
Softball registration will be held
from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday
Feb.2, at the Dallas High
School.
Any boy or girl ages 5-16 may
register. New players must bring
a birth certificate and proof of
address.

gion.
