It will cost more to run a main line from the new remote tank location, but the tank itself will be less expensive. “It’s a tradeoff,” he said. Once the land is acquired, the company must get approval from the township for a minor subdivision. Subasic said he hoped to approach the planning commission early next year. Dave Quinn, Manager of the company’s White Haven Division, said in September that installation of a tank would address several issues. Inadequate pressure now makes it impossible to properly flush the lines, leading to a buildup of contaminants. The problem is especially acute in Midway Manor, he said, where the lines themselves are too small. A tank, which would contain more than 200,000 gallons of water, would provide more pressure for flushing, and would also allow the use of fire hydrants. Even though there are fire hydrants in some of the subdivisions the company serves, pressure is now too low to make them functional. The tank will also assure that water is available during power outages. The tank is one piece in a larger project to improve water quality in the area near Manor Drive and Carverton Road. In 2002, Aqua Pennsylvania took over several small companies from the defunct National Utilities, and now wants to tie them all together. The company’s request for a $2.6 million low-interest PEN- NVEST loan was approved last month by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority. The funding will provide for the installation of the storage tank and allow Aqua Pennsylvania to develop new wells and replace 10,000 ER SR RR “It's higher, so the tower can be lower.” Rich Subasic Agua Pennsylvania general manager feet of water mains. The company plans to inter- connect these small water sys- tems: Bramblewood, Midway Manor, Harris Hill, Cedar Lane, Sunrise Estates, Windsor Farms, Maplecrest and Meadowcrest. Together, they serve about 800 homes. Each system now has its own well, but connecting them together will also make service more reliable. “We’ll abandon some of those wells and keep the good ones,” he said, and once that is done he sees no need for new wells. “As soon as we get the town- ship’s blessing, we can go for- ward,” he said. “It will probably be like three different projects,” the tank, interconnecting the main lines and then replacing outdated lines into homes, especially in Midway Manor. Subasic said the company would assume all costs, even for plumbing needed to move connections from the back to the front of homes. The present lines run behind houses, and the new ones will be placed below the roadway in front of them. The company recently received a rate increase of about 10 percent. But there will be no assessments for the installation of the mains, con- nections or tower. Once an actual plan is sub- mitted, public hearings will be held at which customers and property owners can comment. Aqua Pennsylvania also owns systems in Lehman and at Harveys Lake, and recently acquired the system that serves Fieldcrest in Jackson Township.
