Henry Messinger, Josh Shaver, and Bobby Peron combined on a three hitter in a 5-1 win over Fort Swoyer. Scott Skammer broke open a 2-1 lead with a two RBI dou- ble in the sixth, Josh Shaver followed with an RBI single. Derek Martin blasted a home run to deep left center and Tom Youells made some outstanding defensive plays in left. Josh Backes and Michael Eckman led the offensive attack as BMT defeated Ed-Lark 11-3. Backes had two hits and scored three runs, and Eckman added two hits and three RBI. BMT scored eight times in the 6th and 7th innings to break open a 3-2 game. Bobby Peron went five innnings to pick up the win, striking out nine and only allowing one hit. Legion Baseball Tunkhannock tops Plains behind Grey, Rau June 2 — Corey Rau and Brad Grey combined on a three-hitter as Tunkhannock defeated Plains 6-3 Wednesday in American Le- gion baseball. Grey also had two hits and three RBL Chad Crispell added two doubles and an RBI for Tunkhannock, which scored three times in the third to take the lead for good. Robinson leads Tunkhannock June 1 — Adam Robinson threw a one-hitter and struck out five as Tunkhannock defeated Mountain Post 781 6-1 Tuesday in American Legion baseball. Robinson was also 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Paul Kint- ner added two hits and an RBL Local runners dominate in Bear Creek Run Five runners from Back Mountain competed in the annual 1/2 mile Bear Creek Run sponsored by the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, Bear Creek. Twenty-five runners from all over Luzerne County competed in the event. Brett Wanek, Brandon Harding and John Hodle finished in the top seven. The top 10 finishers received a stuffed bear, in addition to their medals. Magic wins U-9 championship The Back Mountain Magic captured the U-9 boys indoor soccer championship at the Wyoming Valley Sports Dome. The Magic defeated the Plains Power 5-0 in the semifinal and the Kingston Warriors 2-1 in the final. Charity golf tournaments St. Therese’s/Joe Brennan golf tournament The annual St. Therese’s Joe Brennan Memorial Golf outing will be held Friday, June 18 at Four Seasons Golf Course, with lunch at noon and a I p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $60 per golfer. Proceeds will benefit the church’s capitol campaign fund. The captain and crew format will include longest drive and clos- est-to-the-pin prizes and first place winners in six flights. The en- try fee includes lunch, dinner and refreshments on the course. Legion tournament June 19 The Daddow-Isaacs Dallas American Legion Post 672 will hold its 13th annual golf tournament with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Sat- urday, June 19, at Shadowbrook Golf Club, Tunkhannock. Pro- ceeds will benefit the Legion's scholarship fund. Last year, the Post awarded three, $1,000 scholarships to Back Mountain students at- tending a technical school. Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Golf Tournament Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s Alumni Constituent Society will host its ninth annual golf tournament on Friday, July 23, at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountain Top. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Hole-in-one prizes include a cruise or vacation trip for two. Evans doubled of the base of the left field wall, scoring Jonathan Thomas and Adam Paulauskas. Englehart followed with a single scoring Evans. The Phillies added two insur- ance runs in the third. In the Pirates fourth, Marc Noyalis and Griffin Adams sin- gled, but an outstanding defen- sive play by the Phillies’ Jordan Thomas cut the rally short. Adam Paulauskas led all hit- ters going 2-for-3 and Matt Be- van added a double, RBI and scored a run to round out the Phillies’ offense. Carson Baker pitched three hitless innings, striking out seven, to pick up the victory. Noyalis suffered the loss. The game was called after four in- nings due to rain. Giants 7, Horlacher Phillies 1 Chris Dailey pitched a com- plete game as the Giants shut down the Horlacher Phillies. Adam Holena and Kyle Caffrey both had triples in the win, and Austin Smith delivered a key hit for the big men. Red Sox 7, Rangers 1 The Red Sox cruised past the Rangers in an American League showdown, improving their record to 9-2. The combi- nation of Cody Plesnar and Matt Shaver on the mound handcuffed the Rangers, strik- ing out eight and allowing only four hits. Brandon Harding had two hits for the Red Sox includ- ing a double. Scott Riccetti also collected two hits and knocked in two runs. Plesnar helped himself with a double picking up three RBI. Matt Shaver also singled and drove in a run. Eric Baines doubled and Tyler Mor- gan had a key hit for the Red Sox. James Youngman and Tan- ner Baloh made some spectacu- lar catches in the outfield to stop the Rangers’ rally at- tempts. Steve Ruch pitched well for the Rangers in the defeat, strik- ing out five and picking up two hits. Travis DeBona doubled and Kyle Weaver added a single for the Red Sox. Dodgers 6, Harvey’s Lake 2 T.J. Stepanski pitched three innings while striking out sev- en batters and earning the win as the Dodgers slipped past Harvey’s Lake. Austin Carr pitched the final three innings and did not allow a base hit for the save. Konrad Kraszewski went deep for the second con- secutive game while Austin Carr was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Mike Diaco belted a long double against the left field fence and Andrew Sabol, Keith Cusma, and T.J. Shultz each had base hits. Pirates 8, Harvey’s Lake #2 2 Tom Smith and Marc Noyalis combined to pitch a one-hitter and struck out 13 batters as the Pirates topped Harveys Lake. Noyalis collected three hits, in- cluding a double and triple, while ‘Smith belted a double. John Patrick Henry had two hits and Peter Long added a single.
