Back Mountain teeners
advance to tourney final
The BMT 13-year-old teeners
advanced to the finals of the
Dave Yenchek Tournament in
Nanticoke with two victories
over the weekend.
Ryan Urzen picked up the
win in relief of Bobby Peron in
the first game as BMT rallied
from a 5-1 deficit to win 7-6
over Valley. Michael Eckman
knocked in Scott Skammer
with the winning run in the
bottom of the seventh. Skam-
mer had two hits and scored
three runs, Josh Backes added
In the second game Henry
Messinger pitched five innings
of one-hit ball and added three
hits as BMT cruised to a 9-0
victory over Hazleton.
Bobby Peron had three hits
and 4 RBI, and Michael Eck-
man and Josh Backes added
two hits each in the win. Tom
Youells also belted a double for
the winners.
BMT is the defending cham-
pion in this tournament and
will play in the finals on Sun-
day, May 9 at 4 p.m. against
three hits and three RBI South Wilkes-Barre. :

Hunter Englehart pitched a
complete game to pick up the
victory for the Phillies. Konrad
Kraszewski suffered the loss for
the Dodgers. Robert Gionfriddo
singled with two outs and the
bases loaded in the bottom of
the second inning to ignite the
Phillies offense. Other key hit-
ters for the Phillies were Cody
Poepperling, with a single, a
run scored and two RBI and
Englehart, two hits, two runs
scored and two RBI.
Kraszewski went 2-for-3 with
a double and run batted in and
T.J. Stepanski doubled to lead
the Dodgers. Singles by Austin
Carr, Mike Diaco and Wyatt
Phillips rounded out the
Dodgers’ offense.
Pirates 10, Orioles 0
Marc Noyalis pitched a com-
plete game one hitter, striking
out 1C, as the Pirates defeated
the Orioles. Noyalis also belted
three hits, including a triple.
Tom Smith smacked a home
run and triple, knocking in
three runs and Joey Murray
had two hits and scored twice
double for the Orioles while
Devin Taylor pitched well,
striking out two.
Orioles 7, Yankees 6
Adam Viercinski and Jimmy
Brown combined to strike out
14 in the Orioles’ win. Viercins-
ki, Brown, Damon Marth and
Brandon Roberts each slugged
doubles for the O’s, while De-
von Taylor added a rip to cen-
ter for a single.
Offensively for the Yankees,
Adam Goeringer and Kevin
Pierce had three hits each, and
Kevin Muldoon added two in
defeat.
Giants 5, As 0
Kevin Gilbert and Chris Dai-
ley combined to strike out sev-
en in the shutout victory. Derik
Cannon had two hits, with
Gilbert, Josh Ryan, Austin
Smith, and Ronnie Rose adding
one each. Adam Holena
smashed a home run to center
field for the victors.
Andrew McCabe struck out
five batters in a losing cause.
Rangers 16, Astros 11
Zach Dirsa picked up the win
in relief, while combining with
Stephen Ruch to strike out 19
batters in seven innings. Taylor
Dunn and Ruch led the Rangers
with four hits apiece and com-
bined to drive in nine runs.
Chris Prater led the Astros
with three hits including a dou-
ble and a triple. Zach Yursha
took the loss in relief but also
contributed two hits including
a triple.
