Lehman bombed by Hazletong
HAZLETON — By the sta-
tistics, Lake-Lehman didn’t lose
by much last week to Hazleton.
After all, the Black Knights
had 15 first downs to the
Cougars’ 13, punted only three
times and gained almost as
many rushing yards.
But the statistic that mat-
tered was the score, and Hazle-
ton led that line 35-7, in part
because Lehman coughed the
ball up three times while the
Cougars kept their claws
wrapped firmly on the ball.
Hazleton tailback Matt Mc-
Gowan found the end zone five
times Friday night to pace the
Cougars.
McGowan, who rushed for
121 yards, scored early and of-
ten. He fielded the opening
kick on the 8vyard line and
sprinted straight up the left
sideline to give the Cougars a
7-0 lead.
Lehman finally scored on the
stingy Cougars defense late in
the game. Brandon Burkhardt
connected with Brandon Wren
on a halfback option to move
the Black Knights to Hazleton’s
five.
On the next play, Chad Der-
hammer — who rushed for 128
yards on 25 carries, scored on a
5-yard touchdown run for the
35-7 final. Wren finished the
game with four catches for 81
yards.
