Students conduct ‘Yellow Ribbon Program’
Nineteen members of the
ninth grade. American Experi-

School developed a short pre-
sentation to explain the “Yellow
Ribbon Program” to students at
Wycallis and Dallas Elementary
Schools recently. The freshmen
came up with the idea after dis-
cussing the War in Iraq in their
civics class. Each of the children
in selected elementary classes
received a pamphlet, written by
freshman Katie Peters, explain-
ing the program, a sticker with a

Trips
(continued from page 1)
“It was kind of a plan B,” said
Norm Swithers, Home and
School Visitor who helped to
plan the replacement trip. “We
kicked it around. It's a musical.
You know it won a lot of
awards.”
The Peer Helpers were origi-
nally scheduled to see the play
“42nd Street.” Galicki said an
effort is underway to re-sell the
now unusable tickets. As of
eight days ago, the broker
charged with the sales had not
found any schools that wanted
them.
All hope in recouping ticket
costs isn’t lost. Swithers said
the 32 tickets have been doled
out to different brokers and
sent around to different ticket
sales agencies in the city.
The Peer Helpers serve as
mediators between faculty and
students. There are three boys
and three girls in each grade.
“Basically they are the eyes and
ears of the staff. They assist if
any kids are experiencing diffi-
culties,” said Swithers.
The trip isn’t what it was
originally intended to be, but,
Swithers said, the students are
an appreciative group.
“I think they're pretty much
up for it. I mean it's going to be
a nice day.”
“They're a good group, a real
nice group to be around and
work with,” said Swithers.
Administrators at Monday's
school board meeting said al-
ternative plans haven't yet been
completed to replace other trips
that have been cancelled due to
the heightened terror alert sta-
tus.
