RICHARD CIBULA JR.
Member of Back Mountain Har-
vest Assembly of God Church
Richard Thomas Cibula Jr.,
23, of Shavertown section of
Kingston Township, died Satur-
day April 12, 2003 at home.
Born Aug. 6, (1979, ‘in
Somerville, N.J., he was the son
of Richard Thomas and Laura
(Walls) Cibula Sr. of Shaver-
town, Kingston Township. He
graduated from Dallas High
School and attended Mid-Valley
Middle School, where he played
junior varsity football. He was a
member of Back Mountain Har-
vest Assembly of God Church,
Trucksville, Kingston Township.
He was preceded in death by
his paternal grandparents,
Joseph and Sarah Cibula; and
maternal grandparents, William
and Marie Walls.
Surviving in addition to his
parents are his sister, Melanie,
at home.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Back Mountain
Harvest Assembly of God
Church.
ELIZABETH KUNIGELIS
Owner of bridal shop
Elizabeth Kunigelis of Harris
Hill Road, Shavertown, died
Monday April 7, 2003 at home.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., she
was the daughter of the late
Michael and Elizabeth (Kavka)
Kacara. She was owner and op-
erator of Elizabeth Bridal Shop,
New Jersey. She was a member
of Trinity Presbyterian Church,
Dallas, and the International
Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, John S. Jr.
Surviving are nieces
nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to the
American Heart Association or
to their local church.
MILDRED BOYER
Resident of Sweet Valley
Mildred I. Boyer, 69, of Sweet
Valley, died Monday April 14,
2003 at home.
Born April 30, 1933, in
Chester, she was a daughter of
the late Harry and Edith
(Fowler) Harrington.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Harold B.; and
brother, Henry Harrington.
Surviving are her sons,
Harold Jr., Feasterville, Ben-
jamin, Benton; daughters, Judy
Schreck, Bristol; Julie Wiley,
Bear Creek Township; Mildred
Hurley, Fallon, Nev.; Margaret
Fries, Sunrise, Fla.; Donna
Salamatin, Levittown; 18 grand-
children; brothers, Harry Har-
rington, Shunk; John Harring-
ton, Langhorne; Robert Harring-
ton, Feasterville; and sister,
Doris Finch, Bensalem.

STEPHEN WERNER
Member of St. Therese’s Church
Stephen E. Werner, 52, for-
merly of Shavertown, died
Wednesday April 9, 2003 at the
Pocono Medical Center, East
Stroudsburg.
Born in Chicago, he was the
son of the late Dr. Robert E.
and Patricia (Hadley) Werner.
He was a graduate of Wyoming
Valley West High School,
Wilkes College and also attend-
ed College Misericordia. He was
a member of St. Therese’s
Church, Shavertown.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, the former Constance
Steinberg.
Surviving are daughter,
Stephanie N. Werner, Cape
May, N.J.; with whom he
resided; sons, Eric B., Pitts-
burgh; Robert A., Edwardsville;
and sister, Christine Blinn,
Dallas.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Luzerne County
Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals, Plains
Township.
SOPHIE BONCZEK
Brother lives in Dallas
Sophie Bonczek, 79, of South
River Street, Wilkes-Barre, for-
merly of Tunkhannock, died Fri-
day March 28, 2003 at Mercy
Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born April 1, 1923, in Scran-
ton, she was a daughter of the
late Joseph and Anna (Matalav-
itch) Vaskas. She was employed
in the cafeteria by Wilkes Uni-
versity for many years, and she
and her husband owned and
operated Steve and Sophie’s Bar
& Grill, Tunkhannock. She was
a member of Nativity BVM
Church, Tunkhannock.
She was preceded in death by
brothers, Peter, Victor and Doc;
and sisters, Adele Wisniewski
and Ann Yarasavage.
Surviving are daughters,
Christine  Bonczek, Wilkes-
Barre; Renae Williams, Wilkes-
Barre; sons, Steve, Tunkhan-
nock; Joseph, Kingston; five
grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie
Wiezavich, Tunkhannock; Helen
Leoni, Wilkes-Barre; brother,
Joseph, Dallas; and several
nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be
made to the American Diabetes
Association, Wilkes-Barre.

Telephone operator
during World War II
Ann Buza, 96, formerly of
Crane Road, Shavertown sec-
tion of Kingston Township, died
Saturday April 12, 2003 at
Meadows Nursing Center, Dal-
las.
Born Nov. 24, 1906, in Swoy-
ersville, she was a daughter of
the late Robert and Kathryn
(Murray) Monahan. She worked
as a telephone operator for Bell
Telephone Co. During World
War II, she was a welder at the
RCA plant, Camden, N.J.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Julian and broth-
ers and sisters.
Surviving are her daughters,
Mary Kerpovich, Shavertown,
Kingston Township; Catherine
Reh, Clifton, N.J.; Joan
Evanko, Warren, Mich.; son,
James, Riverside, Mich.; 12
grandchildren; 12 great-grand-
children; and several nieces
and nephews.

MATTHEW CYBULSKI
Self-employed dairy farmer
Matthew “Mitch” Cybulski, 81,
of Hildebrant Road, Dallas, died
Wednesday April 9, 2003 at the
Meadows Nursing Center, Dal-
las.
Born in Edwardsville, he was a
son of the late Apolinari and
Hedwig Cybulski. He attended
Jackson Township schools and
was self-employed as a dairy
farmer.
He was preceded in death by
brothers, John and Theodore;
and sisters, Betty Gavalchick
and Susan Klepps.
Surviving are his wife of 47
years, the former Frances Hilde-
brant; son, John P., Dallas;
daughters, Marion Welliver, Still-
water; Michelle Martin, Falls;
two granddaughters; brother,
Paul, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial do-
nations may be made to Com-
munity Bible Church, Sweet Val-
ley.
EDITH KMETZ
Member of the St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church
Edith Kmetz, of Laurel Run
Road, Trailwood, died Wednes-
day March 26, 2003 in VNA
Hospice at Heritage House,
Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Exeter, she was a
daughter of the late William and
Philomina (Ceruilli) Galli. She
attended Exeter schools and
graduated from Exeter High
School. She was a member of
St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic
Church, Wilkes-Barre, the
Apostolate of St. Mary’s and the
Catholic Daughters.
She was preceded in death by
her sisters, Verna Galli, Lillian
Galli; and brother, William Galli
Jr.
Surviving are her husband,
George; son, George, Bear Creek
Township; brothers, Evo Galli,
Exeter; Guido Galli, Pittston;
Anthony Galli, Wilkes-Barre;
and sister, Josephine Guanari,
Dallas.
