The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Thursday, March 14, 2002 9 @ BAD CHECKS Charges against Joel Withers, 22, of 64 Midland Drive, Dallas, were held over to county court relating to two bad checks to- talling $2,450 passed at two area Pennstar Banks. According to arrest papers: Withers opened a checking ac- count at Pennstar Bank in Dal- las, and withdrew $1,000 from a credit card account the next day. Approximately one week later, Withers again withdrew money from another credit card account, this time at a Pennstar Bank in Kingston. When at- tempting obtain the money from the credit card company, Pennstar official Patricia Miller- ick was notified that both ac- counts were closed. Mitchell Bailey, 23, of RR 4 Box 295, Dallas, pled guilty to two charges of passing bad checks, totalling $40.55 at Sheetz gas station, at a prelimi- nary hearing before District Magistrate James Tupper. Bailey was required to pay $91.50 in court costs and $40.55 in restitution. A charge of disregard for a traffic lane has also been waived. eWilliam Kocher, 78, of 2 Carr Ave., Dallas, was arrested De- cember 14, 2001 by Dallas Township police officer Joseph Bren after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident along Route 415, near King Neptune Seafood. According to ‘arrest papers: Kocher's 1991 Ford Tempo swerved into the the south- dound lane and struck a 1993 Subaru. Kocher fled the scene on foot, but was taken into cus- tody at his home a short time later. A field sobriety test could not be administered to Kocher, and his blood alcohol level was not available. *Kevin Czarnecki, 21, of 241 W. Main Street, Glen Lyon, was arrested December 14, 2001 by Dallas Township police officer Jeffrey Dennis in the area of 401 Country Club Apartments. According to arrest papers, Czarnecki’s blood alcohol level was .145 percent. eWilliam Shaffer Jr., 43, of 24 Circle Drive, Pittston, was ar- rested November 30, 2001 by Kingston Township police officer Wade Curtis along Route 309 North after his white vehicle flipped onto its roof, according to police. According to arrest papers: Shaffer was traveling north on Route 309 in the passing lane, and swerved in front of another vehicle, went up an embank- ment and slid across it for 83 feet. The vehicle then flipped over and slid on it's roof along the road 46.5 feet, before spin- ning around and sliding another 46.5 feet. According to police, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, and had a blood alcohol level of .145 percent. Reg. History of trolley line is meeting focus Reverend James Wert, of Ex- eter, will be the featured speaker at the second meeting of the Back Mountain Historical Soci- ety at 7 p.m. March 21 at Col- lege Misericordia. Wert, a local expert on the trolley line that ran from Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, to Har- veys Lake, will present his dis- cussion, “The Back Mountains Tumultuous Trolley Line, 1893- 1939,” in the McGowan Confer- ence Center on the third floor of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. Dr. Allan Austin, of College Misericordia’s History depart- ment, and some of his students will present an oral history on the trolley line, and have been working with Back Mountain residents who remember the trolley line.
