Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Krauzlis Balavage. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and received her bache- lor's degree from Pratt Institute of Art, New York. She graduated from College Misericordia, Dallas, with a bachelor of science degree in education, and from the Uni- versity of Scranton, with a mas- ter's degree in elementary educa- tion and minor in reading. She resided in Kingston for most of her life and also lived in Chase for 15 years. She taught art in el- ementary schools in Manville, N.J., and Dallas, before retiring from Dodson Elementary School, Wilkes-Barre, in 1976. She was a member of the Dorranceton Unit- ed Methodist Church, Kingston; the National Retired Teachers As- sociation; Pennsylvania State Ed- ucation Association; Delta Kappa Gamma; charter member of the Wyoming Valley Art League and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; and sister, Mildred Moser. Surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial donations may be made to the Dorranceton United Methodist Church. (Eddy) Trott, 91, of Huntington Mills, died Monday Nov. 19, 2001 at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater. Born January 13, 1910 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Dauber) Welch. She was a housekeeper for the Mercy Hos- pital, Wilkes-Barre, for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Dallas Senior Cit- izens and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her hus- bands, James Arthur Eddy and Ivor Trott; sons, Woodward and James Eddy; brothers, Wood- ward, Ario and Earl; and, sister, Martha Watkins. Surviving are her sons, Fran- cis Eddy, Norman, Okla.; Harry Eddy, Mifflinburg; daughter, Ly- dia Bartleson, Huntington Mills; 25 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; brother, Richard, Luzerne; and, sisters, Eleanor Calkins, Dallas; Hildreth Tran- sue, Sommersville, N.J.; and, Dolores Transue, Lincoln, Mont. Benjamin, 63, of Sunshine Road, Shickshinny, formerly of Jackson Township, Columbia County, and Union Township, died Monday Nov. 19, 2001 in the emergency room of the Berwick Hospital Center. Born April 13, 1938 in Blooms- burg, he was the son of Arlene E. (Bowman) Benjamin, with whom he resided, and the late Blake C. Benjamin. He was a 1956 gradu- ate of Benton Area High School. He was a clerk at the former Barchik's Market, Benton, where he worked for 17 years, retiring in 1987. He served with the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves for six years in the 1960s. Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his sister, Dealia A. Creveling, Stillwater. DARIA CONSIDINE Part-time English instructor for Luzerne County Community College Daria J. Considine, 45, of Lehman Avenue, Dallas, formerly of Shavertown, died Sunday Nov. 17, 2001 at her home. Born in Rochester, N.Y., she was a daughter of John Kizis, of Orlando, and Joan (Messmer) Kizis, of Wilkes-Barre. She was a graduate of Wheaton High School, Wheaton.Ill.,, and College Misercordia. She was a part-time English instructor for Luzerne County Community College and occasionally worked as a substi- tute teacher in the Dallas School District. Surviving are her husband Robert D.; son, Brett, at home; daughter, Robyn, student at Marywood University; sisters, Karen Alden, Alaska; Janelle Tomalis, Camp Hill; and, Brita Horn, Colorado. FRED WILLIAMS JR. U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II Fred L. Williams Jr., 80, former- ly of East Vaughn St., Kingston, died Friday Nov. 16, 2001 at Asto- ria Convalescent Hospital, Syl- mar, Calif. Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Fred L. and Velma (Weilenbeck) Williams. He was a 1939 graduate of Kingston High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He served - in Guadacanal, Tulogie, and the Solomon Islands, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was self-em- ployed as a private investigator in Los Angeles. He also worked as a security guard at Warner Bros. Studios, Culver City studios, and the John Paul Getty Museum. He was preceded in death by a nephew. SHIRLEY SHAFER Formerly employed as a mobile escort driver Shirley M. Shafer, 66, of Sweet Valley, died Sunday Nov. 18, 2001 at home. Born at Sor- ber Mountain on June 5, 1935 she was a daughter of Melvina Hufford Scott, Harveys Lake, and the late Russell Scott. She was employed as a mobile escort driver for the last 30 years. She resided in Sweet Valley for the last 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alger Shafer; and brother, Russell (Sonny) Scott. Surviving in addition to her mother, are son, Daniel Den- mon, Loyalville; grandson, Christopher Scott; and sister, Betty Kemmerer, Shickshinny. SISTER ANITA WHEATON Member of Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Dallas Sister Anita Wheaton, RSM, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, of Mercy Center, Dallas, died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2001 at the center. Born May 19, 1920 in Colum- bus, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Anna (Doan) Wheaton. She was a 1938 grad- uate of Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg, W.Va, earned a bachelor's degree in ed- ucation from Duquesne Univer- sity, Pittsburgh, and a master's degree in special education from Cardinal Stritch College, Chica- go. She entered the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus in Colum- bus, Ohio on Sept. 8, 1940 and pronounced her vows on Aug. 22, 1943. She taught elemen- tary, secondary and religious ed- ‘ucation for 30 years in the dio- cese of Wheeling, W.Va. She re- ceived a National Science Foun- dation Grant in mathematics. She was provincial administra- tor of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus from 1972 to 1976. She transferred to the Sisters of Mercy, Dallas, in June, 1979. She served in the communica- tions office of the Provincialate, taught in the elementary schools of the dioceses of Brooklyn, N.Y, and Scranton, was religious ed- ucation coordinator in St. Peter & Paul Parish, Towanda, served on the staff of Mercy Med-Care and was a tutor in the Mercy In- stitute of Educational Develop- ment.
