DMS students raise $10,543
to fight diabetes
The Dallas Middle School Student Council and several volunteers
were presented with a framed poster and a trophy from the Amer-
ican Diabetes Association at the school’s awards assembly. In
the annual Walk for Diabetes the council team raised $10,543 to
fight diabetes. As a result, the Dallas Middle School Student
Council team earned the distinctions of being named the highest
fundraising team in the state of Pennsylvania and the 23rd high-
est team in the nation.

Comic to appear at PSU
Comic Danielle Broussard will perform at Penn State Wilkes-
Barre in Lehman on Wed., Sept. 5, as part of the campus’ Cultural
and Performing Arts Series. Broussard will appear in the Science
Building's Bierly Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Girl Scout bake sale, car wash
Senior Girl Scout Troop 665 of Dallas will be kick off their scout-
ing year with a bake sale on Saturday Sept. 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.,
and a car wash Sunday Sept. 2 from 10-2. Both events will be held
at Thomas' Market in Shavertown. Funds raised will be used for
their yearly scouting activities.

Misericordia Choral Society
seeks new members
College Misericordia’s Choral Society is looking for new members.
The invitation goes out to members of the community as well as any
students, faculty, and staff. No audition is necessary. They will be
accepting new members until Sept. 18.
Rehearsals will be held Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9:30
p.m. in Kennedy Lounge in the College's Banks Center. The first re-
hearsal will be Tuesday, Aug. 28. Music for this semester will con-
sist of Christmas music from France and England, including the
Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Saens.

Hiking Series 15-16
Hickory Run State Park offers 16 hikes, 64 total miles, which cov-
ers the entire trail system within Hickory Run State Park. Bring
hiking shoes laced and a full water-bottle for any or all of these
hikes.
Hike no. 15 is Sat., Sept., 1, at 3 p.m. Gamewire to Boulder Field
Return Road and return. Meet at the Campground Contact Station.
This hike is 6 miles.
Hike no. 16 is Sat., Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. Hickory Run to Sand Spring
