and her highest three-game
series is 616. Samantha enjoys
competing at tournaments like
the Keystone Games. “Each year
I compete in four or five tourna-
ments. It is fun to work on my
skills and also to meet new peo-
ple,” she explained.
Samantha participates in the
Back Mountain Youth Bowling
League. Last year, this group
consisted of 37 bowlers, ages 3-
21. The league meets at the
Back Mountain Bowl for team
competitions every Saturday
morning from September to
April. Each bowler works to earn
Antlerless deer
Pennsylvania Game Commis-
sion Executive Director Vern
Ross reminded hunters that
county treasurers began accept-
ing applications for the first
round of unsold antlerless li-
censes Monday, Aug. 27.
Hunters only may apply for one
unsold license during this
round, but may apply for a sec-
ond unsold antlerless license be-
ginning Sept. 10.
Ross also announced that,
based on a survey of county
treasurers, 23 counties have ex-
hausted their antlerless deer li-
cense allocations. Those coun-
ties are: Armstrong; Bedford;
Cambria; Carbon; Centre; Clari-
on; Clearfield; Clinton; Craw-
ford; Elk; Forest; Juniata; Mer-
cer; . Mifflin; Perry; ‘Potter;
Schuylkill; Snyder; Somerset;
Sullivan; Union; Venango; and
Wyoming.
In addition to these 23 coun-
ties, 14 other counties have few-
er than 1,000 antlerless licenses
remaining.
A complete county-by-county
listing of the remaining available
allocations can be viewed on the
Game Commission's website
(www.pgc.state.pa.us). The list-
ing will be updated weekly. To-
day’s survey showed that slight-
ly more than 194,679 remain.
Ross noted that the 2001-
2002 antlerless allocations were
designed to reduce the statewide
deer herd by about 5 percent. To
do that, the agency needs
hunters to harvest roughly
350,000 antlerless deer. Based
on the increased hunter efficien-
patches and trophies. Saman-
tha's mother is the coordinator
for the league and her father,
Len Laskowski, is the league
coach.
The Keystone State Games will
be held in Wilkes-Barre for the
next three years. Mrs. Laskowski
hopes this will encourage more
Back Mountain youth bowlers to
participate.
She welcomes all potential
Back Mountain bowlers, ages 3-
21, to register for next year’s
league. For more information,

cies expected from the new sea-
sons and bag limits, Commis-
sioners approved a statewide
antlerless license allocation for
the 2001-2002 seasons of
780,250 antlerless licenses —
which is lower than the previous
year’s allocation by 50,400.
Last year at this time, 12
counties had sold their entire
antlerless deer license alloca-
tion, and 329,796 of the
830,650 statewide antlerless
deer license allocation remained.
The timetable for remaining
antlerless deer license applica-
tions follows:
Beginning Monday, Aug. 27,
county treasurers will accept,
only through the mail, applica-
tions for the first round of un-
sold antlerless licenses. Appli-
cants may apply over-the-
counter in Special Regulation
Area counties.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 10,
county treasurers will accept,
only through the mail, applica-
tions for the second round of
unsold antlerless licenses.
Regular antlerless licenses
and first-round unsold licenses
will be mailed by county treasur-
ers to successful applicants no
later than Monday, Sept. 17.
Second-round unsold licenses
will be mailed no later than
Monday, Sept. 24.
A county-by-county listing of
antlerless allocations is printed
on page 22 of the 2001-2002
Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting
and Trapping Regulations,
which is distributed to each li-
cense buyer.
