Shurmaitis, 81, of RD 1, Harveys Lake, formerly of Toms River, N.J., died Monday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home, Plains Township. Born in Stamford, Conn., he was the son of the late Joseph and Madel (Gripowitch) Shur- maitis. He worked for 30 years ‘at the Ciba Geigy Chemical Corp., Toms River. He owned and operated Hilltop Inn, until retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the African and European Theater. He toured with the Searchlight Corps with the USO War Show. He was a volunteer with the Pine Beach Fire Co., Toms River, for ROBERT RUGGERE U.S. Army Veteran who received the Purple Heart Robert J. Ruggere, 53, of Car- penter Road, Dallas Township, died Wednesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Luzerne, he was a son of the late Anthony and Veronica (Mullish) Ruggere. He attended the Luzerne schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietham War and received the Purple Heart.
