8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, July 22, 1998 Fishing (continued from page 1) Ashley Donley, 8, was brought by her grandfather Jack. “It's more fun than being at home watching television,” said Jack Donley. He is making her a tackle box of her own . Casting practice was conducted on the flat grassy shore with hula hoops, not fish, as the targets. No one was safe, however; several casts flew to the top of the visitors center and a lone, fishing-line- scarred tree. Although hampered by a cast on his left arm from a rollerblading accident, Ed Sromoski, 8, managed to hit the hoops. His aunt, Eve Corridoni, brought him so that he could learn to go out with his uncle who is an avid fisherman. (So they think casting a line ‘with a sharp hook on the end is hard on trees. I guess they can’t imagine what it’s like for us fish.) Finally, the novice fishergirls and fisherboys marched to the lake edge with a hook and a worm. Kelchner and her husband, Steve (who is also a Certified Fishing Jonathan Frania, Shavertown (left photo), got a hand baiting his hook. Sean Rutkowski caught the first fish. [ Skills Instructor), taught their ° pupils the best way to wind. that squirmy worm around the hook and sent them to the water. Sean Rutkowski, of Hanover, won honors by snaring the first fish. His father, Steve, a commit- ted fisherman, beamed. Jonathan Frania, of Shavertown, quickly caught a small Bluegill. His favor- ite thing about fishing? “Catching them!” laughed Jonathan. (Mabel, don’t you wish just once we could catch them?) “I almost had that one!” was the refrain from Leah Kaiser. Andrew Jacklowski, of Edwardsville, cast that red worm I saw. After much praisé (“What a beautiful big bass you caught!”), he set me free to swim another day. Warn our relatives: Another youth fishing course will be taught on August 5 at Hickory Run State Park.
