Arsenal wins Sports Dome U-12 title
Back Mountain Arsenal recently won the Wyoming Valley Sports
Dome Indoor U-12 championship. The team went undefeated in
regular season and playoff competition.

The Orioles met the Rangers last week in BMT Little League play, but came away on the short end of a
20-4 score. In top photo, Orioles catcher Matt Moser was late with the tag. Brian Parrish, above left, let

wraps up this week, then playoffs begin.
Piekara will attend Misericordia .
Wyoming Valley Conference baseball standouts Ed Piekara and
Justin Kotarski have announced that they will continue their athletic
and academic careers at College Misericordia.
Piekara is a pitcher/infielder from Dallas. He was a three-year
starter at Dallas and served as team co-captain as a senior. He was a
second-team all-star after hitting .389 and finishing second in the
league with three home runs. :
He also played basketball and football and was the only three-sport
letterman at Dallas during the 1997-98 season.
Kotarski is an outfielder out of Wyoming Valley West and a two year
starter for the Spartans.
Both players have been selected to play in the Wyoming Valley
Conference Senior All-Star game.
Field cleanup Saturday
Members of all BMT Baseball and Softball All-Star teams should
report to the Little League field Sat. morning, June 27 at 9 a.m. to assist
in a general field cleanup. In the event of rain, cleanup activities will
be held Sun. June 28 at 9 a.m.
Junior tennis camp at Kirby Park
A Junior Tennis Summer Camp will be held at Kirby Park. The camp
is geared to junior players-Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced level
player.
The program will include stroke analysis, drills, strategy, competi-
tion and tournaments.
A Most Improved Player award and free Camp T-shirt will be
presented to participants.
There are three sessions: June 29-July10; July 13-July 24; Aug. 3-
Aug. 14. Classes meet 4 days per week for three hours per day for a total
of 24 hours.
The fee is S100 per session.
Director of instruction is Bill Eydler (19 years King’s College Tennis
Coach).

Flack, Daube lead Dodgers to 1-run win

Dodgers 8, Astros 7
Alex Flack and Matt Daube each
doubled to power the Dodger of-
fense. Christian Cobleigh was the
winning pitcher.
For the Astros, Eric Kurello
smacked 2 triples and drove home
4 runs while Scott Carter had a
home run, a double and 2 RBIs.
Rangers 6, Tigers 3
The combined pitching of Mike
Darling and Johnny McGeehan
shut down the Tigers. Darling
registered 7 strikeouts while
McGeehan had 2. Chris Kester
and Phil Engler each had 2 hits
and Morgan Anderson picked up
a double for the Rangers.
Adam King smashed a triple for
the Tigers.
Rangers 11, Red Sox 8
The Rangers erupted for 6 runs
on 8 hits in the 1st inning to key
their victory. Mike Darling, Chris
Kester and Morgan Anderson all
had 3 hits with Darling getting a
double and a triple and Anderson
poking a double. Johnny
McGeehan and Chris Young con-
tributed 2 hits apiece to the Ranger
attack.
For the Red Sox, Joey DeGraba
had a double and Elijah Miller
had 2 doubles.
Rangers 16, A’s 3
Avariety of players contributed
strong performances for the Rang-
ers. Ken Chamberlain picked up
5 strikeouts in 5 innings of pitch-
ing andalso had 2 hits. Johnny
McGeehan went 4 for 5 with a
double and pitched an inning.
Mike Darling went 3 for 3 and

Mike Darling, Chris Kester,
Ryan Marascio and Ken Cham-
berlain all pitched for the Rang-
ers. Phil Engler powered the of-
fense by going 4 for 5 with 2
doubles and 2 triples. Chamber-
lain, Johnny McGeehan and Mor-
gan Andersonall had 2 hits with
McGeehan smacking 2 doubles
and Chamberlain getting 1 double.
Cardinals 7, Dodgers 5
Mark Yankowski pitched a 1-
hitter and struck out 13 to get the
victory. Yankowski, Sean Leary,
Chris Bertinelli and Dan Fuhr all
had 2 hits for the Cardinals.
Reds 6, Cardinals 6
The Reds and Cardinals played
to a 6-6 tie. For the Reds, Ken
Regan and Kevin Tanner each had
2 hits, including a double while
Luke Marchakitus had 3 hits, in-
cluding a double.
For the Cardinals, Sean Leary
had 3 hits. Chris Bertinelli had 2
singles and Mark Yankowski had
2 doubles.
SOFTBALL-MAJORS
Red Sox 8, Dodgers 0
Shannon Thomas pitched a
shutout for the Red Sox to hand
the Dodgers their first loss of the
season.
Dodgers 13, White Sox 12
Sara Brown was the winning
pitcher as the Dodgers won in
extra innings.
Wendy's of Dallas hosted the Dallas Mountaineer Volleyball team to
a pita party on June 16. Owner Steve Kepic hosted the party in
celebration of Dallas’ “Top 16” finish in this year’s volleyball
competition. Peter Redmond, middle hitter for the Mountaineers
was named team MVP for the ‘98 season. Five players were
named to the Wyoming Valley Volleyball Coaches All Star team.
Two players made the Pennsylvania All- Star team and Peter
Redmond was invited to play in the Pennsylvania All-Star game at
Juniata College on June 20, where he was joined by Wyoming
Valley Volleyball League MVP Mark Steele of Lake-Lehman.
