OBITUARIES
HELEN CRISPELL
Helen M. Crispell, 91, of Noxen,
died Dec. 18, 1996, at her home.
Born Nov. 22, 1905 in Noxen,
she was the daughter of the late
Frank and Bertha Morgan Traver.
She graduated from Noxen
schools and the Wyoming Semi-
nary Business College.
She was a member of the Har-
veys Lake Women's Service Club;
the Irem Temple Women’s Auxil-
iary; St. Luke's Lutheran Church,
Noxen.
She was also a past Matron of
Dallas Chapter 396 Order of East-
ern Star and a volunteer for the
local chapter of the Red Cross.
She and her husband, Earl,
celebrated their 71st wedding an-
niversary on Oct. 17.
Surviving in addition to her
husband are a daughter, Mrs.
Tom (Eileen) Bean, Noxen; sons,
Dr. Earl Crispell Jr., California;
Elvin, Wisconsin; Frank (Ed)
Noxen; 10 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs.
Millie Moyer, Evans Falls; several
nieces and nephews.
Interment, Orcutt Grove Cem-
etery, Noxen.
ALYSSA GOODRICH
Alyssa Marie Goodrich, 2, of
Sweet Valley, Ross Township, died
Dec. 16, 1996, at the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital from injuries
received in an automobile acci-
dent in Lehman Township.
Born March 22, 1994 in King-
ston, she was the daughter of
Fred G. and Deborah McHenry
Goodrich.

her home.
Born July 17, 1906 in Newark,
NJ, she was the daugher of the
late John and Eliza Branhall
Marrion.
She was a member of the Living
! Faith Free Methodist Church,
« Trucksville. :
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Edwin J. Gunn Sr;
sisters, Edith Percy, Lucy Hatzer,
Florence Sweazey and Minnie
Kamer.
. Surviving are sons, Edwin J.
% Gunn Jr. and Fred C. Gunn Sr.,
both of Lehman Township; a sis-
ter, Sadie Gunn, Harveys Lake;
five grandchildren; a great-grand-
child.

SHERMAN HEFFT
Sherman G. Hefft, of Carverton
~ Road, Kingston Township, died
Dec. 21, 1996, at the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital.
Born April 13, 1909 at the fam-
© ily home in Kingston Towship, he
was the son of the late Jacob and
Elizabeth Gilpin Hefft.
The Hefft family were among
the first 40 settlers in the Wyo-
ming Valley and had extensive
- land holdings throughout the

k
Back Mountain.
He graduated from Kingston
Township in 1927, and attended
Pennsylvania State University.
He owned and operated one of
the largest farms in the Back
: Mountain. In later years, he was
. a self-employed tractor trailer
~ driver, retiring in 1973.
He was one of the oldest mem-
bers of the Carverton United Meth-
odist Church. He was also a mem-
ber of the Teamster and Motor
Carriers of Western Pennsylva-
nia.
He and his wife, the former
Marie Vrhel, celebrated their 58th
wedding anniversary on July 16.
Surviving in addition to his wife

KENNETH KOCHER
Kenneth K. Kocher, 71, of
Muhlenburg, died Dec. 21, 1996,
at the Department of Veteran Af-
fairs Medical Center, Wilkes-
Barre.
Born May 5, 1925, in Shaver-
town, Kingston Township, he was
the son of the late Azel Rodell and
Mabel Hunter Kocher.
He served in the U.S. Army for
34 years which included service
in the South Pacific during World
War II, the Korean conflict and
the Vietnam era. He also served
in the National Guard for 20 years.
He was a member of the Na-
tional Rifle Association and VFW
Post 283, Kingston.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Martha Lookabaugh; a son,
Kenneth K. Kocher, Jr., at home;
daughters, Karen Harvey, New-
port, NC; Debra. | Orr,
Northumberland; stepsons,
Raymond E. Lookabuagh,
Mocanaqua, Conyngham Town-
ship; Robert E. Protsman,
Nanticoke; brothers, Glen Kocher,
Binghamton, NY; Eugene Kocher,
Kunkle; Derwood Kocher, Sweet
Valley, Ross Township; Dale
Kocher, Beaumont; sisters, Doris
Smith, Dallas; Delores Kocher,
Exeter; and five grandchildren.
Interment, Arlington National
Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

E. Donald LaBar 85, of Allen
Street, Allentown, died Dec. 20,
1996, at his home.
A resident of Dallas most of his
life, he was the son of the late
Timothy and Laura Hoyt LaBar.
He graduated from Dallas
Township High School.
He resided in the Fernbrook
section of Dallas until moving to
Allentown two years ago.
Before retiring, he owned and
operated Don’s Body Shop, Dal-
las.
He was a member of the Dallas
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by
brothers, Lewis, William and
James.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Irene Morris; a brother,
Charles E. “Caddie” LaBar, Dal-
las; nieces and nephews.
Interment, Fern Knoll Burial
Park, Dallas.
CAROL LEE METZLER
Carol Lee Metzler, formerly of
Shavertown died Sept. 26, 1996
at her home in Dana Point, CA.
She was baptized and con-
firmed in St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, Shavertown and gradu-
ated from Westmoreland High
School in 1956.
She is survived by her hus-
band, John Metzler, her mother,
Betty; children, Kurt, Canda,
Kevin Carr and Christa (Carr)
Drexler, all of Southern Califor-
nia; sister, Alice L. Rockwood of
Granada Hills, CA; two brothers,
Kenneth G. Thomas, El Paso,
TX:;William E. Thomas, Jr.
Placentia, CA; four stepchildren;
seven grandchildren; six step-
grandchildren; and eight nieces
and nephews.

Kenneth R. Raphael, 68, of East
Franklin Street, Shavertown, died
Dec. 21, 1996, at his home.
Born March 11, 1928 in Wilkes-
Barre, he as the son of the late
Joseph and Anna Ruffley Raphael.
He resided in Shavertown for
the past 42 years.
Before retiring eight years ago,
he was employed as a custodian
by the Dallas School District for
16 years.
He attended the Christian Sci-
ence Church.
He served with the U.S. Army
during the Korean conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 33
years, the former Gladys
Burkhardt; sons, Ronald Fink,
Pikes Creek; Mark Raphael, Shav-
ertown; daughters Nancy Rogers,
Harveys Lake; Catherine Raphael,
Plymouth, three grandchildren.
Interment, Chapel Lawn Me-
morial Park, Dallas.
Memorial donations may be
