It's a 4-way tie at the top of the
standings in Dallas Youth Basket-
ballgrade 7-8 after last weekend's
action. The Celtics handed the Bulls
their second straight loss behind
Matt Eyet's 25 points, while Jay
Carroll shot the lights out for 39
against the Trailblazers.
HORNETS 40 - WARRIORS 37
In week five, the Hornets de-
feated the Warriors by a score of
40-37. In the first quarter the
Hornets outscored the Warriors
by a score of 15-7. The Hornets
kept up the hot shooting in the
second quarter and went into
halftime with a 22 to 16 lead. The
Warriors woke up in the third
period and held the Hornets to 3
points in the quarter, with the
Hornets holding a slim 25-22 lead

at quarters end. The Warriors
hoped were dimmed in the fourth
quarter, when two of their leading
scorers fouled out of the game.
The Hornets offense was led by
Pat Barnard with 19 points fol-
lowed by John Simonitis with 14
points. The Warriors offense was
led by Justin Bicking with a game
high 24 points followed by T.C.
Harding with 7 points. The Hor-
nets record goes to 2-3, while the
Warriors record drops to 0-5.
CELTICS 44 - BULLS 42
The second game of the after-
noon came down to the final 10
seconds, with the Celtics pulling
the game out by a score of 44-42
over the Bulls. In the first quarter
each team traded baskets, with
the Bulls holding a 10-8 first quar-
ter lead at quarters end. The

inside battle continued to rage in
the third quarter. The Bulls in-
creased their lead by quarters
end 31-25. In the fourth quarter,
the tide turned in favor of the
Celtics, and hot shooting coupled
with the Bulls in foul trouble,
sealed the win with just seconds
to play for the Celtics. The Celtics’
offense was led by Matt Eyet with
23 points followed by Jared
Karalunas with 15 points. The
Bulls offense was led by Paul
Dougal with a game high 26 points
followed by Lloyd Droppers with 8
points. The Celtics’ record goes
to 4-1, while the Bulls drop to 3-
2.
HEAT 51 - SIXERS 45
The third game of the after-
noon had the Heat downing the
Sixers by a score of 51-45. Both
teams came out cold in the first
quarter. The Sixers took control
and took a 10-8 first quarter lead.
The second was much the same
with the Heat and Sixers trading
baskets, with the Heat overtaking
the Sixers at halftime by a score of
18-17. The Sixers came back in
the third quarter, with the hot
shooting of Dave Finn to recap-
ture the lead at quarters end by a
score of 33-30. Not to be outdone,
the Heat, received a well balanced
attack in the final quarter, which
was led by Mike Domzalski and
Jason Race, to seal the win for the
Heat. The Heats offense was led
by Jason Race with a game high
17 points, followed by Mike
Domzalski with 14 points, Fran
Yanik with 10 points and Kevin
Piekara with 8 points. The Sixers

ve Matt Gingo had his Wyalusing opponent in hand during an
exhibition wrestling match last week at Dallas High School.
Gingo wrestles in the 160 Ib. category. Wyalusing dominated
the match, but Gingo cam close to winning his bout.

: Northwest 76, Dallas 47
Dallas appeared a bit sluggish
in the final minutes of the contest
as the Rangers outscored their
hosts 31-11 in the fourth to swipe
a 76-47 victory from the Mounts
Dec.18. J.J. Smith bucketed 17
while Ed Piekara sank 13 for Dal-
las.
O’Reilly 57, Lehman 52
Tom Stambaugh sank 24 points
* and had a stellar defense behind
him to lift the Queensmen past
Lehman 57-52 Dec. 18 at Lehman.
Dave Milunic showed up his coun-
terpart with 27 points of his own
but a key turnover in the final
minute sealed the fate for the
Knights.
Northwest 73, Lehman 36
The Knights had trouble hit-
. ting the bucket with scores in the
' single digits in three of the four
+ periods as Northwest hammered
. Lehman 73-36 Dec. 19. Northwest
outscored the Knights 42-16 in
the second half to post the win.
W.S.Tech 68, Dallas 61

Lehman 74, Northwest 29
Lehman had help from their
entire bench in a one sided show
as the Knights smashed North-
west 74-29 Dec.19. Nearly all of
the Knights squad put numbers
on the board lead by Kelly Spen-
cer with 17. Darby Wolfe followed
up with a 10 point game.

MAGIC 53 - 'BLAZERS 47
In the final game of the after-
noon, the Magic defeated the Trail-
blazers by a score of 53 to 47.
Right from the start, the Magics
Jay Carroll gave a shooting clinic
by scoring 12 of his game high 39
points in the first quarter. The
Magic led 12-5 after the first quar-
ter. The Magic opened the game
wide open in the second quarter
by outscoring the Trailblazers 18-
12, to take a 30-17 halftime lead.
In the third quarter the Trailblaz-
ers regrouped and gave the Magic

Syracuse (1-1) topped Villanova
(1-1) by a score of 23-18 as Chris-
tian Cobleigh scored 8 points with
Dallas Youth Basketball grade
5-6 results:
SETON HALL 49 - BC 27
Jeff Dickson scored 26 points
and had 9 rebounds to lead Seton
Hall (1-1) over Boston College (0-
2) 49-27 in Dallas Youth Basket-
ball 5th/6th grade action. Ryan
Gryskewicz had 11 points and 9
rebounds while Gene Lispi scored
10 points for the Pirates.
ST. JOHN'S 26 -
NOTRE DAME 17
Brett Sprau scored 19 points to
lead St. John’s (2-0) over Notre
Dame (0-2) 26-17. Mark Kertesz
had 5 points for St. John's, while
Notre Dame was led by Kevin
Domzalski with 7 points and
Bobby Hadzor with 6. Jeff Pace
led the defense for Notre Dame.
7 rebounds. Sean Jones had 6
points and 5 rebounds and Mitch
Mitchell had 5 points with 5 re-
bounds. Also scoring for the
Orangemen were Phil Saxon and
Eric Baltimore. Andrew Gialanella
led Villanova with 6 points while
Phil Miller pulled down 7 re-
bounds. Chris Webb led the de-
fense with 3 steals.
U. CONN 36 - PITT 25
Brian Dempsey scored 16
points to lead U. Conn (2-0) over
Pittsburgh (0-2) 36-25. Tim
Kerestes had 12 points while Todd
Kerestes had 6 points and 5
blocked shots. Matt Tucker was
the leading rebounder for the
Huskies. \
Lady Gators crush Regis, hit 7-0
On Dec. 17, the two remaining
unbeaten girls teams from the
East-West Parochial league met
at the Gate of Heaven gym, Regis
Academy and the Lady Gators
from Gate of Heaven
. The game started out with Regis
taking a 7-0 lead and finishing
the first quarter leading by the
scoreof 11-3. The Gators stormed
back with a tenacious full-court
press and outscored:
the
Kingswomen 25-1 in the second
quarter. The game was competi-
tive from the initial tip-off with the
Lady Gators prevailing 55-28.
Leading the scoring for the Gators
were Chelsey Ostrowsky with 24
and Shannon Leary with 12. Great
defensive performances were
turned in by Shannon Lupien,
Katie Guntli, Alison Hutch and
Jocelyn Kozick.
