Performing arts scholarship is offered
Lake-Noxen celebrates National Safe Kids Week
To commemorate National Safe Kids Week, May 4-11, the Luzerne County Chapter of
Pennsylvania Safe Kids recently presented Lake-Noxen fifth grade students with the first local Safe
Kids Citation. The students developed a project to increase playground safety, which included
installation of safer equipment and ideas to reduce fights and rough play on the playground.
The school will also participate in Safe Kids Check America, a nation-wide program that
encourages families to complete the Family Safety Check.

The fifth annual Performing Arts College Scholarship offered by Gina
Major of Major Performing Arts Centers is available to a 1996 gradu-
ating high school senior planning to pursue a [ull four-year degree in
any one of the performing arts fields.
To apply, send a letter of intent outlining experience, awards, credits
to date in the performing arts, academic, community and school
involvement. A letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, etc. is not
required but is acceptable.
Send the letter to Gina Major, Director, Major Performing Arts
Centers, c/o 85 Huntsville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
Please note future plans, specifically the four-year performing arts
program and college you will attend. Deadline: Mav 24. 1996.
Kings to celebrate S0th anniversary
King's College will “Celebrate the Experience” of 50-year history with
a kickoff celebration May 31. A full schedule of events through June
1997 will pay tribute to the college's academic and religious founda-
tions, while recognizing the accomplishments of students, alumni,
faculty and friends of the college.
On May 31, there will be a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Luzerne
County Courthouse commemorating the granting of the King's College
charter by the Luzerne County Court in May, 1946. Alumni and
descendents of the original signatories of the charter have been invited
to join Luzerne County officials, King's College [aculty, staff, adminis-
trators and students. A reception will [ollow.
