DOROTHY BALSHAW
Dorothy L. Balshaw, 78, a
former resident of New Goss
Manor, Dallas, died Mar. 3, 1996,
in Kingston Health Care Center,
Kingston.
Born in College Point, NY, she
was the daughter of the late
Ferdinand and Madeline Froebe
Lutters.
She was a graduate of Hunter
College, NYC.
She was active as a profes- .
sional singer for many years at
the St. Stephen's Episcopal
Church, Wilkes-Barre; B'nai B'rith
Temple, Kingston and the Wyo-
ming Valley Oratorio Society.
She had resided in the Wyo-
ming Valley area since 1947.
She was member of St.
Stephen's Episcopal Church,
Wilkes-Barre and its women's as-
sociation.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Clifford.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs.
Janet Edwardes, Dallas; Mrs. Vera
B. Walline, Falls Township; step-
son, Dr. Paul A. Balshaw,
Huntingdon, WV; sister, Vera
Boyson, Redwood City, CA; sev-
eral grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11
a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen's
Episcopal Church, 35S. Franklin
St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev.
David Rivers, rector of the Old
Swede's Episcopal Church, Phila-
delphia, officiating.
Private interment will be in
Memorial Park, Carverton.

Hope Smith Bell, 87, of Beau-
mont, died Feb. 27, 1996, in
Lakeside Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born March 4, 1908, in
Centermoreland, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and
Leona Wall Brace.
She was a member of the Beau-
mont Baptist Church and the
Daughters of the American Revo-
lution.
She worked for Natona Mills,
Dallas, for more than 25 years.
She was preceded in death by
her first husband, Arthur “Jack”
Smith; second husband, Robert
“Bob” Bell; daughter, Marian Tay-
lor; son, Howard Smith; grand-
son, Howard Smith, Jr.; great-
grandson Jay Evans III.
Surviving are her grandchil-
dren, Mrs. Tona Evans,
Tunkhannock; Mrs. Shawn
Jerauld, LaPlume; Vanessa
Burkhardt and Shanna Smith,
both of Noxen; Lester Smith, VA;
six great-grandchildren.
Interment, Perrins Marsh Cem-
etery, Centermoreland.
MAX DREHER, JR.
Max J. Dreher, Jr., 68, of
Thurston, NY, died Feb. 28, 1996,
at the Bath VA Medical Center
after along battle with a rare form
of ALS.
Born September 2, 1927, in
‘Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of
‘Melasine Schreiber Dreher, and
the late Max Joseph Sr.
. He was a teacher at the old
‘Campbell Central School, for 28
years, and a member of the
Campbell Lions Club, he was an
avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving in addition to his
mother, Melasine Schreiber
Dreher, Dallas, are his wife, Bar-
bara Ide Dreher, Campbell, NY;
son, Max II, of Troupsburg, NY;
daughter, Karen Prescott of
DeSoto, KS; brother, Herbert,
Dallas; four grandchildren, Hillary
Anne, Jay Patrick and Gracie Ariel
Dreher; Mikki Leanne Prescott;
several nieces and nephews.

Marie K. Forster, 85, of Or-

Mar. 1, 1996, at Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital.

Plains Township, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and
Lillian Kile.
She was a member of the New
Life Community Church, Orange;
the Order of the Eastern Star,
Wilkes-Barre, where she was a
Past Matron and Rainbow Assem-
bly 45, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Isaac.
Surviving are sons, Isaac C.,
Wildwood, NJ; David B., Harveys
Lake; Edward A., with whom she
resided; eight grandchildren; sis-
ter, Addie Golden, Buffalo, NY.

Jones.

She worked for Eastern Sports-
wear, Noxen and was a member of
the Noxen United Methodist
Church United Methodist Women,
Classmates and Senior Citizens
in Tunkhannock.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Myron; sonJohnny;
grandson, Merle Newberry;
brother, Albert; sisters, Edna,
Lydia and Angeline.
Surviving are her son, Joseph,
Brasher Falls, NY; daughters, Alice
LLane, Annabelle Macintosh, Grace
Nalbone and Mary Hopfer, all of
Noxen; Edna Newberry, Beau-
mont; Dorothy Shafer, Holmes;
Helen Schwartz, Philadelphia; 26
grandchildren; 51 great-grand-
children; 29 great-great-grand-
children; many nieces and neph-
ews.

Hayward M. Lancio, 87, of
Ferguson Ave., Shavertown,
Kingston Township, died Feb. 28,
1996, in Franklin, TN.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was
the son of the late Jeremiah and
Elizabeth Evans Lancio.
He attended Wilkes-Barre
schools and had resided in
Shavertown for the past 33 years.
Before retiring, he was em-
ployed as a truck driver by the
- former Friedman's Express.
He was a member of the Dallas
United Methodist Church, mem-
ber and past member of George
M. Dallas Lodge 531 F&AM,
Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg,
Irem Temple, Wilkes-Barre; and
the International Brotherhood of
Teamsters Local 401, Wilkes-
Barre. :
He was preceded in death by
his wife, the former Stella Wbyskal;
son Robert.
Surviving are his son, John F.
Brentwood, TN: sister, Margaret
Frank, Waldoboro, ME; five grand-
children; seven great-grandchil-
dren.
Interment, Chapel Lawn Me-
morial Park, Dallas.

John Shuta of Main Road, Dal-
las, died Feb. 27, 1996 at home.
Born in Laurel Run, he was the
son of the late Metro and Mary
Swantko Shuta.
He was a graduate of Coughlin
High School, Wilkes-Barre, and
was a U.S. Navy veteran of World
War II.
He was a member of Dallas
American Legion Post 672 and
was employed by the Fern Brook
Inn, Dallas, as a bartender.
He was preceded in death by
his brothers, William and Michael;
sisters, Constance Smith and
Anna Chehoski.
Surviving are his brothers, Jo-
seph, Fayettsville, NC; Walter
Shuta, Marlboro, MA; sisters,
Mary Weseloski, Parlin, NJ; Bar-
‘bara Phillips, Elizabeth, NJ; Mrs.
Stephen Berlozan, Shavertown,
Kingston Township; Florence

James M. Williams, 68, of Hart-
ford Street, Shavertown, Kingston
Township, died Feb. 28, 1996, at
his home.
Born April:l1l, 1928, in
Nanticoke, he was the son of the
late Dr. Percy and Ann Morgan
Williams.
He was a graduate of Wyoming
Seminary, Kingston, class of 1946
and Wilkes University, class of
1950, and received his master's
degree from New York University.
He was employed as an art
teacher by the Middleburg School
District and for more than 30
years by the Fairlawn, NJ, School
District before retiring in 1987.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Carol Rau; sister, Ruth
Haislip, Stafford, VA; brother, Dr.
Thomas P. Williams, Kingston; two
‘nieces and three nephews.
Interment, Oaklawn Cemetery,
Hanover Township.
