4 members of * The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, February 21, 1996 13 Dallas band are playing in regionals By MICHAEL TWICHELL Post Correspondent DALLAS - Four members of the Dallas High School Band will be participating in the 1996 Region IV State Band Festival at Tunkhannock Area Senior High School from February 21-24, with a public concert to be held on the 24th at 2:00 p.m. Dallas band director Todd L. Hunter is pleased with his stu- dents’ accomplishments. “You need to get people with a strong desire to express themselves through their music,” he said of them. Percussionist Bob Humphrey and baritone saxo- phone player Greg Riley are both attending the festival for the sec- ond time, while trombonist Mike Dobranski and tenor sax player Todd Butcher are making their first trip. The Region IV State Band is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. There are 158 high school musi- cians representing Districts 8and Dallas band members invited to Regionals are, from left, seated: GE Mike Dobranski, Greg Riley. Standing, Bob Humphrey, Todd Butcher. 9. Students are awarded place- ment as a result of auditions held at their district band festivals ear- lier this year. Auditions at regionals will decide which stu- dents will be awarded seats in the All-State Festival, to be held in April at Valley Forge, Pa. Hunter said his students were, “Very dedicated toward pre- paring for the festival.” Selections included in the program are; “Flight of the Pe- gasus,” “Hymn for a Festival,” “Chester,” “Childrens March,” and “Alleluia Laudamus Te.” The guest conductor for the festival will be David Shaffer. In addition to the regional festival, Hunter is also preparing his ensemble for their annual spring concert, to be held on May 16 at the high school, as well as the band trip scheduled for May 2-4. “We have enough to keep us busy.” said Hunter.
